Gastronomic Impressionist Art "Dine with your eyes"
Gilles Grasteau, interprets impressionism through his gastronomic creations, to be enjoyed first with the eyes and then with the palate
From the 6th of April, The Westin Palace, Madrid is offering a gastronomic menu with an impressionist appearance at its La Rotonda Restaurant, next to La Cúpula. The experience may be complemented with a guided visit by an art expert to the exhibition " Monet and Abstraction"
"EAT WITH YOUR EYES", a metaphor that alludes to this visual attraction perceived of something when seeing it for the first time. An expression that we frequently use to refer to our first opinion about things or people that make a very pleasant impact on our eyes.
This is the reason behind the importance of this first contact on the result of the experience as a whole. In this case, we are referring to material elements and specifically, to the importance that the presentation and layout of what we are about to eat, have on the final result.
This is the subject of the new gastronomical initiative that we are starting up both for lunches and for dinners at our restaurant "La Rotonda", from the 6th of April onwards.
We have chosen impressionism as a common theme for the programme, a style which reached its maximum splendour in Paris at the beginning of the last century and from there the Executive Chef of The Westin Paris hotel, Gilles Grasteau has travelled to Madrid, to design his favourite recipes using an impressionist point of view in the kitchens of the Palace, as if the dishes were paintings by Monet. Grasteau will train the hotel's kitchen staff, which will then follow the master recipes down to the last detail, to be prepared for all the diners who decide to enjoy this initiative.
"We want to entertain the diners' sight before they start to eat these French cuisine creations, and we are grateful to our colleagues from The Westin Paris represented by Gilles Gastreau, for all their enthusiasm for the project" Marc Lannoy - General Manager.
