Welcome to La Ruche cafe & B&B, with comfortable, traditionally furnished en-suite rooms and home cooked food in Central France.

Robin and Joanne warmly welcome you to La Ruche Cafe and Bed & Breakfast in Chaillac, Central France. Our family home is a traditional house in the south of the Indre region which was originally built for the village Doctor in the 1800’s. This explains why it is such a grand house sitting in a prominent position in the pretty village square. In its time it has also been the village ‘charcuterie’.

From 2016 La Ruche is now a spacious and beautifully renovated B&B offering you wonderfully comfortable accommodation and a friendly, relaxing stay. You can also our freshly made cakes or home cooked lunches in La Ruche Cafe, overlooking the village square. Open all year round, we offer 4 comfortable and traditionally furnished en-suite bedrooms with doubles, twin and family rooms available. Perfect for a week, overnight stay, or stopover en route between northern France and the Mediterranean, Chaillac is perfectly situated just a short drive from the A20 motorway and within an hour of 2 airports, Limoges and Poitiers. A popular destination for visitors, Chaillac is a family friendly village in an unspoiled area of France with numerous attractions, lakes, forests and beautiful countryside including the stunning nature rich Brenne National Park, all close by. There are many pretty medieval and market towns to discover locally including the beautiful St Benoit du Sault, Argenton-sur-Creuse, Montmorillon, La Souterraine and Chauvigny and the beautiful Chateau Guillaume is also just a short drive away and open to the public. In Chaillac itself we have all you need for your break. Thanks to our village square location, parking is free outside La Ruche and we are only a few steps away from two small and friendly bars, a lovely restaurant, boulangerie, charcuterie and pharmacy. La Ruche is just a few minutes’ walk from the beautiful Lac de Rochegaudon, perfect for walking, fishing and cycling. Summer is excellent at the lake and provides lots of opportunity for family fun with the beach and play area, life-guarded waterslide, restaurant and beach bar open daily. The lake also hosts a huge firework display each summer as well as many other events across the year. At La Ruche English and French are spoken. We very much look forward to welcoming you in our home and will endeavour to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

What a lovely sunny week, again! Possibly better weather for the plants this coming week…🌦️ but we are heading into BBQ season and I’m placing an Irish order to get summer ready!

As usual, if you would like something on this next order, please send me a private message this week and I will add this to the order for you, and tell you when the sausage, bacon and cheese goodies arrive.

Bonjour nos amis de La Ruche

Il y a de nombreuses années, nous avons réalisé notre rêve de nous installer en France avec nos enfants pour y commencer une nouvelle vie, et il y a 10 ans, nous avons ouvert La Ruche.
Nous sommes très fiers de ce que nous avons construit et avons la chance, 10 ans après, d’avoir une clientèle si fidèle et agréable. Merci !

Aujourd’hui, nous envisageons la suite et mettons donc notre charmante maison en vente. Nous aimerions qu’une nouvelle personne prenne le relais afin de continuer à vous offrir un lieu chaleureux et convivial.

La vente peut prendre 5 mois, 5 ans, voire plus… qui sait !
Soyez assurés que, même si le panneau « À vendre » est affiché, nous serons toujours là pour vous accueillir avec le sourire.

Many years ago we followed our dream to move to France for a new life with our children, and 10 years ago we opened La Ruche.
We are very proud of what we have built and we are so lucky to have the most lovely and loyal customers, 10 years on! Thank you!

Now we are considering the next chapter, and as such we will be advertising our lovely home for sale. We would love someone new to continue to offer a warm and friendly place for you to visit.

It may take 5 months or 5 years to sell, maybe more, who knows!
Please be assured that even though there will be a ‘a vendre’ board, we will still be here, to look after you, with a smile.

We would like to thank you for all your support and visits to La Ruche in 2025, and we sincerely wish you a wonderful, happy and healthy 2026!

During January 2026, La Ruche cafe will open on Saturdays for breakfast but will not be open during the week.

Our B&B will be fully open.

Dear lovely La Ruche friends!

It is December!
Snow has already fallen ❄, and the Christmas decorations are up!
So, as is now customary at La Ruche, all that is left in the run up to Christmas is to share some Christmas food, vin chaud and joy with you all!

Saturday 13 December is the annual Chaillac Christmas Market and we will be open for breakfast as normal, 8am until 11am, then serving our traditional hot Turkey Christmas rolls, homemade vin chaud and mince pies from 12noon until 3pm.

Clonakilty sausgaes, bacon and cheddar will also be available.

So please come and join us for some festive cheer, a warm up with a vin chaud and some delicious homemade food!

Nous sommes en décembre !
La neige est déjà tombée ❄ et les décorations de Noël sont installées !

Comme le veut la tradition à La Ruche, il ne nous reste plus qu'à partager avec vous, avant Noël, un peu de convivialité autour d'un bon repas de fête, d'un vin chaud et de moments de joie !

Le samedi 13 décembre aura lieu le marché de Noël annuel de Chaillac. Nous serons ouverts pour le English Breakfast, comme d'habitude, de 8h à 11h, puis nous servirons nos traditionnels pains à la dinde, chaud, notre vin chaud et nos mince pies, toute fait maison, de midi à 15h.

Des saucisses, du bacon et du cheddar de Clonakilty, seront également disponibles.

Alors venez nombreux partager avec nous la magie des fêtes, vous réchauffer avec un vin chaud et déguster de délicieux plats maison !

I am happy to tell you that our Irish delivery has arrived and your orders are ready to be collected!
If you didn’t order, don’t worry as I have ordered plenty of extras! Just get in touch.

I will be here for order collections from 2.30pm until 8pm today (Thursday), or Friday between 10am and 1pm.
Otherwise, Saturday during breakfast service (which will be a little busier!) 8-12.

Please can you tell me when you would like to collect to help planning.
As always, payment is by cash, or chèque, not by card.

Dear La Ruche friends

What a lovely sunny week after such a lot of rain ☀️☔️!

I am placing a Clonakilty order this week, potentially the last one of this year…
So while we have sunshine, we are also thinking about pigs in blankets! 🎄

I expect the order to arrive during the first few days of October, all being well. As normal, I will be buying extra stock to but if you would like me to order anything for you, then please send me a private message.

Je passe une commande pour Clonakilty cette semaine, peut-être la dernière de l'année…
Alors, tant qu'il y a du soleil, on pense aussi à nos cochons d'Inde ! 🎄

Je pense que la commande arrivera début octobre, si tout va bien. Comme d'habitude, je vais racheter du stock, mais si vous souhaitez que je commande quelque chose pour vous, n'hésitez pas à m'envoyer un message privé.

Happy sunny Sunday to our lovely La Ruche friends! ☀️

While its a bit warm, we hope you are well and enjoying the super summer sunshine!
Its perfect BBQ weather and as such we have a new delivery of scrummy Irish sausages, bacon and cheddar on the way - hopefully with us by 24th July.

If you would like me to put anything aside for you for collection when it arrives, please just send me a private message.
Payment in cash or by cheque please - no card.

We have plenty of stock in the freezer if you would like to BBQ your sausages before then!
