The hotel puts sleep quality of guests as paramount importance. It has installed double glazed soundproof windows and triple-layer walls between rooms to keep potential noise out. Its location is far from the railway hence noise from trains during cane crushing seasons is never an issue. Furthermore, it only uses high quality mattresses for good night sleeps. Story behind the hotel name:
"Hotel 88" comes from the original idea that the new hotel's name must reflects its local identity -- a hotel established, owned and run by local people of the friendly northern island. By chance we found that all telephone numbers in Vanua Levu start with "88"(like ours 8811839). Hence this is the perfect name to have the hotel's north-connection recognised. As "88" indicates Labasa/Vanua Levu administrative divisions, we also wished to use this name to express appreciation for our local friends and government's great assistance during hotel establishment. Coincidentally, "8" is a lucky number in Chinese tradition, meaning fortune and richness, and double "8" is double the luck!! As a result "Hotel 88", with a good wish to the people in the north was created.
