Hotel Harriniva is a family run business established in 1973. It provides versatile accommodation and restaurant services as well as unforgettable safari programs in the beautiful and unspoilt nature of Northern Lapland. Harriniva is located in Western-Lapland, near the Pallas-Ylläs national park, close to the road E8, 3 km South from Muonio village. It is situated next to the Muonio River and hundreds of kilometers of snowmobile, cross country skiing and hiking tracks. The combination of these provides endless possibilities for different activities all year round. Our whole family is involved in the business, so you might meet Köpi, Maria, Niina, Jouni, Jussi, Antti or Kalle during your holiday here in Harriniva.

Meet Hessu. When the snow is gone and the safaris are on pause, the huskies still need someone who knows every one of them. Here in Muonio, one of those people is Hessu. In this first part, he tells you who he is and what his days with the dogs look like.

The leaves in Muonio are mostly on the ground now, not on the trees anymore. Just a week ago it still looked like this in some spots.

Once the colours fade, winter's not far off, and this year it feels like it's coming in fast. We're not quite ready to welcome the 2026–2027 winter season just yet, but it's close.

Is it too late to book a winter holiday in Lapland for 2026–2027? No, here's exactly what's still open. ❄️

Right now, in our webshop: Harriniva Adventure Resort has two windows. Christmas packages are open for arrivals between 26 November and 26 December, and the other winter packages run from 27 December through the end of March. Jeris Lakeside Resort is bookable from 2 January to 10 April 2027.

To see these dates in the calendar, search your own arrival and departure dates and add the code WINTER — without it, the packages won't appear at all, which is why availability can look more limited than it actually is.

Thank you to everyone who was part of this summer and autumn — our guests, our team, and everyone who simply passed through and said hello.

Before we close for our annual maintenance break, we're taking a moment to enjoy the last of the colours ruska has to offer this year. Then it's time to prepare for what's next. We'll open our doors again in late November, ready to welcome you into the 2026–2027 winter season.

What's the best time to watch the Northern Lights? Statistically, it's around the spring and autumn equinoxes, and any time close to midnight. But here in Lapland, the odds are good almost any clear, dark night. The aurora doesn't wait for a calendar. Here's a quick look at how the season shifts, month by month.

Autumn has its own appeal for this hobby: no frostbite to worry about, and your fingers stay warm enough to actually work the camera. Then again, midwinter has a magic of its own. Frost cracking in the cold, that sharp bite of Arctic air on your face, and the sky dancing overhead in colours that stop you mid-step.

Maybe a little late to this trend… haha. But we couldn’t let it pass, because autumn in Lapland deserves its moment too. 🍂

Winter may get most of the attention, but autumn brings ruska colours, crisp air, quiet hiking trails, rafting on the Muonio River and northern lights reflecting on unfrozen lakes. Here in Lapland, we talk about eight seasons. Each one changes the landscape and brings different ways to spend time outdoors.

Jeris Lakeside Resort and Arctic Sauna World are open and welcoming guests until September 20th. During the autumn season, the reception for Jeris Lakeside Resort is located at the Arctic Sauna World reception.

The Northern Lights are already dancing in the sky, ruska is making its way across the landscape, and the trails are ready for autumn adventures.
