For this evening’s tea we’re trying our first Sheng Pu’er, PANDA BAMBOO. The hand-roll tea ball, called Dragon Ball was so beautifully made that we can’t help but take a bunch of photos to show off its shape.

The liquor has a beautiful golden green colour. Bamboo is aptly named, for it reminded Whalie of the bamboo groves they loved playing in as a kid. Other notes we spotted were sweet longan with a touch of white flower aroma.

We tried to loosen up the ball with a rinse but maybe with too little time. Consequently, the first brew was lighter than we wanted. Later brews improved and we had an enjoyable tea session. Sheng Pu’er proved a little tricky for us inexperienced drinkers, as some infusions were strong and slightly bitter. We will definitely try it again and try to improve.

This special tea was a little present from Peng ❤️.

It’s tea day here in Finland so might as well come back to resurrect this account 🤘🏼Still enjoying winter tea, although yet unable to balance life and managing a virtual persona.
Hope to find time and circle back to the tea community here soon. In the meantime, leftover photos from an old shoot 🫑 bit of strong caffeine to combat the Nordic snow ❄️

Milanxiang Dancong from
I refer to this one as my little fruit jelly tea, since the aroma brings back memory of my childhood fruit jelly cups 🍒 - fragrant with sweetness yet light and bouncy. While this Milanxiang is such a pleasure to melt into on chilly days, the true delight lies in the complex finish. Jujube and prunes sweet turns brine, accompanied by wild rose 🌹 The bitterness adds a flare instead of overtaking the palate.
Everytime I wind down and sip on this, I’m forced to focus on gradually dissecting the aromatic and flavour layers. As I float in the void between past childhood and present adulthood, the tea warms up my stomach, soothes the nagging cramp into submission.

Trà được ưu ái gọi là trà thạch hoa quả, vì hương trà gợi nhớ những chén thạch trong cốc nhựa con con hồi bé hay đòi mua - mùi ngọt rõ ràng nhưng lại nhẹ nhàng, không bị nồng. Trà hợp để người uống tan vào những hôm trời trở lạnh, nhưng cái hay nhất của trà lại đến từ hậu vị tầng tầng lớp lớp phức tạp. Ngọt táo tàu và mận khô chuyển mặn như nước muối, đi cùng hương hồng dại. Chút vị đắng không chỉ không át đi vị ngon mà còn đẩy cho trà một điểm nhấn.
Mỗi lần ngồi nhâm nhi một chén trà là phải ngồi xuống tập trung vào nó, vào hương vị và hương thơm. Người uống như lạc trong khoảng trống giữa tuổi thơ và trưởng thành.

Zhu Ye Qing (Bamboo Leaf Green) from
A spring delicacy I forgot to post. Green buds “fatten” with water are such a joy to look at as the aroma brings mind to a bamboo forest. The taste is delicate, yet the body is thick and smooth. Sunflower seeds and sweet red beans, asparagus head with rugosa rose finish, this tea embodies this year late spring and early summer vividly.

This might be the last post of Chinese green tea this year. As the air turns crisp and breath suspenses in the form of smoke, the chilling nature of green tea (particularly Chinese) falls out of place. I sense myself gradually gravitating towards “warmer” tea, especially the Dancong that warms my stomach like a gentle soup. My love for the green remains, but my physical body doesn’t long for it as intensely.

Một thứ cao lương từ đầu xuân mà quên đăng. Lá trà xanh dẹt khi pha trở nên béo múp nhìn thật thích. Nước chạm lá là hương rừng tre ngào ngạt. Nước trà tuy nhẹ nhưng rất đầy và mượt, mang vị hạt hướng dương, đậu đỏ, phần đầu măng tây và hoa hồng Nhật nơi hậu vị. Trà mang đúng tinh thần cuối xuân đầu hạ.

Có lẽ đây sẽ là bài cuối của năm về trà xanh Trung Quốc. Khi khí trời chuyển sắc lạnh và hơi thở treo lơ lửng như khói, tính hàn của trà xanh trở nên lạc lõng. Bản thân tự cảm nhận sự biến chuyển chậm rãi tới những trà ấm hơn, như trà Phượng Hoàng ấm bụng. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

I love looking at Anji Baicha leaves floating in sun dust like this. In the visible veins run thousands disguises of nostalgia, from the gentle caffeine kick to a sweet whiff of caramelized sweet potato. Mesmerized by the tiny veins, I’m humbly reminded of every point in time that has led me here, where the fragile physical body fleets in sunlight alongside time as the enigmatic mental mind reminisces.

My family love language is food and drink, so it’s only natural that homesick metamorphoses itself into taste and aroma. I wonder if I’d ever be able to enjoy a cup of tea in the realm of now and here.

[🇻🇳] Mình thích nhìn lá Bạch trà An Cát lơ lửng trong bụi nắng. Chảy trong những vân lá con con là cả ngàn giả trang của nỗi nhớ nhà, từ cơn say cafein nhẹ tới ngọt hương khoai nướng. Ngồi nhìn mê mẩn, mình thấy may mắn và biết ơn từng khoảng khắc nhỏ đã đưa mình tới đây, nơi cơ thể tan biến trong nắng cùng dòng thời gian vô tình và tiềm thức chìm trong hồi tưởng xưa.

Gia đình mình yêu qua đồ ăn thức uống, vậy nên cũng là lẽ thường khi nhớ nhà cảm nhận qua thính và vị giác. Không biết liệu có tới một ngày mình có thể thưởng trà trong không gian thực tại, của bây giờ và ở đây.

A supposedly sheng-like dark tea from Vietnam. I’ve never had puer before, so there is no precedent expectation coming to this. Having said that, the strong fishy smell of the leaves was a bit off-putting at first 🐟 It was rather eccentric how such pungent smell can transform into a floral pomelo flower note in the tea. While I managed to get pass the initial impression and got to taste the sweet melon finish of this tea, Forest Genie surely didn’t impress my tea buddy ☹️ Even I don’t drink this often, considering I’d have to turn off my sense of smell in the beginning 👃🏼

Forest Genie được xử lí gần giống trà Phổ Nhĩ sống, có thể coi là một loại hắc trà đến từ Việt Nam. Vì chưa từng thử Phổ Nhĩ nên cũng không có tư liệu hương vị gì để đối chiếu 🧐
Lá trà có mùi cá khá mạnh, hơi giống mắm. Khá ấn tượng là một mùi mạnh vậy lại có thể chuyển hoá sang hương hoa bưởi ngọt nhẹ trong nước trà 🫖 Mặc dù mình có thể dần quen với mùi mà chú tâm tới những tính khác của trà, thường mình cũng không uống nhiều ☹️ Thưởng trà mà bỏ qua phần hương thì cũng mất vui

Only miss the sweetness of cantaloupe when the season is gone. Only appreciate the relaxed and tranquil flow of Helsinki when getting caught up in the hectic swirl of metropolitan Stockholm 🌟Luckily we had a nice stroll with jubilant sunlight on the second day ☀️
The metro art exhibitions are worth it though - the King’s garden is a non-negotiable stop 🌿

As autumn passing hastily and amber hue leaves falling out the stream of shortened days, we're constantly reminded of the taste of Biluochun - Green Snail Spring from .
Tightly rolled into shiny balls of leaves, the tea, while being a green tea, somehow takes on the properties of ball-rolled oolong. Once we grasped a hold of this tea, we started letting the leaves to unfurl gently into their secrets.
The tea has unmistakably warm scents of chestnuts and sweetness of dried apricots, with green vegetal elements that resembles the mossy earth after the rain - one that grows stronger after each brew. The taste peaks right before the leaves are fully opened, accompanied by a brothy note, medium thickness, stone fruits, yet low in astrigency. The lingering finish of sweet daikon and dried apricots allures the drinkers to drink more and more.
A tricky tea to make, one that we tried so many times since the beginning of our tea journey, yet the delicate tastes are worth every drop of effort.

Si Ji Chun (Four Seasons Spring) is the next tea from

As the name implies, this tea feels just as an evergreen spring garden. Dry leaves have a scent of peach and pleasant mock orange flower. Rinsing the leaves brings out a bit of cherry nut chocolate and grape - and after many infusions the leaves take on the distinctive smell of steamed okra.

All of that complex aroma, yet we were swayed and left wide-eyed by the one and only fragrance of nighttime frangipani. Frangipani holds a special place in our hearts, for its idiosyncratically sweet aroma is always reminiscent of native land. A sudden outburst of homesickness. A concoction of roses, gardenia, plums and a citrus note - the scent of frangipani is almost impossible to describe and just as impossible to slip from memory. It wouldn’t be exaggeration saying this tea might have the most layers of aroma out of all that we’ve ever tried.

The tea is surprisingly thick and buttery smooth, though the flavour is rather delicate and light. Boiled greens broth and an aftertaste of taro with a bright touch of mandarine. It sure has the characteristics of certain green tea, and therefore, is suited for all seasonal drinking. The exceptional aroma makes up for the light and fleeting taste of the tea.
