We would never have thought that a global pandemic could put an end to the trajectory of Can Josep. We would like to inform you that the doors of our restaurant will close for good after 59 years of looking after you.
We are grateful to Josep and Montse for the impetus and enthusiasm they had when they arrived at Pineda de Mar. They worked tough to run a very hard and sacrificed business, which does not understand holidays or schedules. The couple was able to pass on to their daughters, Pilar and Teresa, the notions of respect, love and professionalism. Teresa, at the head of Can Josep in recent years, has fought and postponed this decision until the last moment. Nevertheless, when you have always given support, and then you do not get it when you need it, you have no choice left but to give up, even if it hurts.
Raquel, Sara, Coetí and Georgina, the third generation of Can Josep, are very sad and feel a great emptiness. It is hard for us to walk down 45 Doctor Bertomeu Street and see the shutter down; we are grateful however for everything we have learned between the walls of this family restaurant.
We want to thank all the hardworking people who have passed through our premises. You have worked under a frantic and sometimes unfair pace, but that has given us a lot of joy. The world of catering is very hard, and from here we want to give our warm support to the rest of our professional colleagues in Pineda de Mar who are still fighting to survive. We encourage you to keep going and we thank you for doing so; we also want to tell you that a ‘no’ at the right moment is also a victory.
To all the artists who have passed through our place, thank you for sharing part of your art with us and for having written step by step the history of the place.
To the residents of Doctor Bertomeu Street, it has been a pleasure to share a street as special as ours.
To Pineda de Mar City Council, just to tell you that we have the name Pineda de Mar tattooed on our hearts.
We end up with you, our customers, our family. Without you, we would not have had the strength to walk together for so many years. Thanks for the reviews, both positive and negative. Thank you for your loyalty.
We are left with fantastic memories of shared experiences, but also a bitter aftertaste for the complicated situation we are going through that makes us take such a drastic decision. We apologize if we have not explained ourselves better, or if you do not understand how we handled it. From our 60-1 years at the head of the Restaurant Can Josep we have the culture of effort in the eyes of Grandma Montse; she did not expect to see the closing of what has been her life, a restaurant she has loved and which she has always, always, lived with true devotion. Our little tribute to the grandmother is to thank her for inventing, with Josep, the rules of a business when everything was a blank canvas.
We say a sad farewell because it would have made us very excited to celebrate this 2021. We had been thinking for years about how to commemorate this date, when our business turned 60. Nevertheless, it could not be, so we say goodbye celebrating this 60-1.
