El Jinete is a 20-year-old restaurant on an 80-year-old finca in the Mijas countryside, seven minutes from La Cala de Mijas. The grill is Argentine-style, pure charcoal, and it is the reason people drive out here. The menu runs wide — from a 700g chuletón to sole au gratin, rack of lamb to homemade crème brûlée — and every main course comes with potato and vegetable of the day, because that is wha

t a main course should look like. The cocktail programme was built from scratch by a mixologist who cared. In summer, the terrace looks out at the Sierra de Mijas and people stay longer than they planned to. In winter, the grill burns inside and the room holds warmth the way a house does — because it is one.
