Like most of life’s happy coincidences, Nikkeis' storyline melds economic hardship, cultural exchange, creativity and a sprinkle of serendipity. It all starts with the arrival of migrant Japanese contract labourers and farmers on the coastal plantations of Peru in 1889/the late 19th century. Due to Japans distressed economic state at the time, many chose to stay upon finishing their contracts even
tually settling in the cities. Finding work in local food venues, the Japanese community added their imprint/touch to the traditional Peruvian dishes. Two great ancient civilisations had met, engaging in a culinary conversation that seemed to flow effortlessly, combining opposites in a perfectly balanced exchange. Since then, generations of Japanese Peruvians have gradually transformed local dishes, pushing creative boundaries to create what is now known as Nikkei. Ever-evolving with room for endless creative experimentation, Nikkei’s humble beginnings in Peru’s bodegas have lead it to become the modern-day culinary artform that it is. While Lima will always remain the home of Nikkei, Izakaya has just brought the best this cuisine has to offer to Cairo under the masterful guidance of our head chef, Lan William . Straight from Dubai with years of fine-tuning and creative experiments under his knife, Chef Lan, every single dish on the Izakaya menu was created as a culinary celebration of Nikkeis beautiful history.
