A simple coffee table update can be as easy as bringing a few favourite pieces together on a woven tray.

Books, flowers, candles and collected objects can be grouped in one place, adding texture and interest while helping the arrangement feel considered and contained.

And styling a coffee table is just one way to use a woven tray. From carrying and serving to holding fresh produce, grouping drinks and barware or displaying pieces on open shelving, there are plenty of ways to put them to use around the home.

Designed for carrying and serving, woven trays can be used in so many other ways throughout the home.

Use them to corral everyday items on an entryway console or coffee table, hold fresh produce in the kitchen, group drinks and barware, or as the foundation for a styled vignette.

And when they’re not being used to hold or gather objects, their woven texture makes them a decorative element in their own right. Try standing one on open shelving amongst ceramics and glassware, or hanging one on the wall.

Our Jumbo Tassel Wall Hanging is made from more than 500 individually handmade jute tassels, each tied by hand to an intricate macramé base.

The layered, tactile surface brings texture and depth to an interior, while its natural tone works across a wide range of spaces. As the largest wall hanging in our collection, it’s particularly suited to large walls, high ceilings, stairwells and open living spaces.

Each piece takes approximately two weeks to make, handcrafted by women artisans in rural Bangladesh through our long-standing Fair Trade partnership.

For today’s In Focus, we’re taking a closer look at our much-loved Soha Laundry Basket.

Generously sized for laundry, toys, exercise gear and everyday storage, the Soha has a structured form, cotton lining and strong jute macrame handles that make it easy to carry around the home.

Its distinctive woven texture is created from jute that is first braided by hand, then woven together with cotton on traditional wooden looms by women artisans in rural Bangladesh. Each basket is then lined, stitched and finished by women working in a Fair Trade sewing workshop in Dhaka.

Our approach to design has always centred on creating timeless pieces with purpose. Rather than designing for a particular moment or trend, we consider how each piece will be used, the natural materials best suited to it and the traditional techniques of the artisans who make it.

Some of the best reflections of this approach have now been in our collection for more than a decade. From jute baskets and wall hangings to woven bags, these designs are still handcrafted by the same Fair Trade artisan partners we first developed them with and are as relevant today as when they were first created.
