An insight into Kristine Vedel Adeltoft’s process.
Kristine works from her studio on a farm on Falster, where the surrounding landscape is a constant source of inspiration.
Her approach to ceramics is deeply connected to the places around her. Many of her glazes are named after locations on Falster, and some contain clay collected from the landscape itself. Ulslev, for example, takes its name from Ulslev Strand and reflects the cool, muted tones of the coast, while the Hesnæs glaze contains clay from Hesnæs Strand.
For Kristine, the process is as much about sensing and responding to the material as it is about shaping it. She describes her work as a way of carrying something of the energy of the landscape into the objects, allowing it to remain present in the finished piece.
