✨️Kamunyaka Natural

Natural-processed Kenyan SL28 and SL34: Sweet and vibrant, jammy cup with notes of orange citrus, dark grapes, and honeysuckle from Kamunyaka Coffee Factory and Iria-Inin Farmers Cooperative.

"Kamunyaka" translates to "place of luck" in the Kikuyu language, and it operates under the Iriaini Coffee Farmers' Cooperative. With an altitude of approximately 1800 masl, Kamunyaka benefits from a cooler microclimate and extended cherry maturation, resulting in dense beans and layered cup complexity. The site is known not only for its rigorous washed processing but also for its experimental approaches, including natural and anaerobic fermentation methods.

The Kamunyaka wet mill is located on the slopes of Mount Kenya in Nyeri County, Kenya. It is a part of the Iri-aini Farmers Cooperative Society, working with surrounding smallholder farmers who deliver their coffee cherries to the factory. Here they are depulped, fermented, washed, and then slowly dried on raised beds.

The factory is known for processing high-quality Kenyan Arabica coffees, often from the SL28 and SL34 varieties, which are valued for their complex flavor profiles.

This year, we are working with Kamunyaka Washing Station directly and representing both natural-processed and washed-processed lots. Follow us to get the latest releases.

Happy International Coffee Day.

From seedling through crafting, nursing, planting, pruning, attending, picking, sorting, depulping, washing, processing, drying, milling, packing, shipping, sampling, roasting, cupping, packaging, grinding, brewing, and serving to your cup, coffee goes through multiple highly meticulous steps that require dozens of pairs of hands along the way. On its way, coffee connects hundreds of millions of livelihoods around the world.

When you drink a cup of coffee today, think of all the people behind the cup and the journey the beans have made to make it to you.

Thank you to all our partners for the great coffees we get to represent.

Imperio Rojo – Catugeisha - Costa Rica

An uncommon hybrid or mutation related to Catuai and Geisha genetics, creating a structured and elegant cup with notes of lemon iced tea, cashews, gooseberries, and lingering brown sugar sweetness.
..

We visited the owners of Imperio Rojo, Karla and José Alvarado, last year on their farm, Las Brisas, where you can really see the passion and dedication to quality and exploration.

What began as a dream to add value to their harvest has grown into a micro-beneficio model that allows them to oversee each step of their process personally. Coming from a background of construction and heavy machinery work to specialty coffee production, they are driven by a desire to understand and improve what they had to offer.

They cultivate a diverse selection of varieties renowned for their exceptional cup quality, including Ethiopian 47, Kenya, Geisha, SL28, Villalobos, and Catugeisha. This botanical diversity is matched by an equally ambitious processing program that includes natural, honey, washed, rested-washed, double-washed, and anaerobic methods. These techniques are designed to highlight the unique characteristics of each variety and micro-lot.

The family wants to be recognized for the quality of their products and to secure a place in international markets not just as exporters, but as artisans of specialty coffee cultivated with purpose.

Hugo Pareja - Incahuasi, Peru - Caturra & Bourbon

Juicy, creamy and delightfully bright mix of Caturra and Bourbon from Hugo Pareja from Incahuasi district, Cusco, Peru. This coffee brews a delicious cup with notes of gooseberries, white grapes and mixed stone fruits.

Hugo Pareja's farm sits at one of the highest altitudes in the Incahuasi district, perhaps even in Peru between 2300-2500 meters in altitude. He has been redeveloping shade for the coffee trees in these otherwise treeless areas and developing infrastructure for extended fermentation, washing tanks and drying beds.

The farm's name, Inka Rumi “Coffee on the Rocks”, derives from the massive boulders throughout the farm. despite the boulders, the dark volcanic soil in Inka Rumi is very rich in nutrients. All it took was a few light shade trees at this 2400+ meter high farm to make the perfect conditions for growing coffee.

Hugo, like many other farmers in Incahuasi valley, utilizes the Peruvian Ayni system of working, where many hands make light work and people can rotate the picking regularly. Hugo works mainly with the Arabica varieties of Caturra and Bourbon, with some Typica, which are performing very well at this altitude, much better than the hybrid varieties like Catimor which Hugo is currently pulling out of is farm. All varieties are separated at harvest to make micro-lots of each variety and this year we chose his Caturra and Bourbon to create this unique farmer micro-lot.

The members of each committee in the Incahuasi Coop share the same Inca ancestry and culture. Traditionally the Incas share the working processes amongst the community and today the members of the Inchuasi Coop still employ the methods of Minka -to share work on infrastructure in the community- and Ayni -to share work and collaborate between farmers on a day to day basis-. Through this collaboration of work the practices become refined amongst each farmer and perfected in the Inca tradition.

Happy Midsummer/Midsommar/Juhannus/Summer solstice!

To us Finns, Juhannus is probably the most magical and anticipated holiday of the year. It’s a celebration of the summer, the nightless night and respect for nature and community. It’s often spent by the lakeside or the coast with friends and family, eating, drinking and of course bathing in the sauna, as well as doing traditional spells and magic. ✨️🌸🪷🏵🌹🌺🌷🪻🔥

Great coffee is of naturally an essential part of any celebration and also helps to get the most out of the longest day of the year. ☀️👀☀️
