I dreaded this day my whole life. Wijdan Abu Zahra, that was her name which means affection,fondness, soul and emotion, which is exactly what she was.
It’s difficult for me to be writing in the past tense because just this morning she was here with us. My parents were working when I was younger so Teta raised me. She taught me life, I’m an only child so she was my best friend, my neighbour, my number 1 fan and I was hers, my secret keeper, my first love and my whole world.
Although I never visited, but I know every inch of Palestine like the back of my hand because of Teta. She magically instilled in me values that resonate with me today in everything I do.
The love and passion for a land I don’t know, she raised me to love people and do everything I do with pride and passion.
Life brought her down so many times, but she fought it with a smile and got up stronger every time.
Teta had a big zest and appetite for food, so before yesterday she watched the latest video of me on youtube and was so happy she teared up and she said “teta I want to see more”.
Teta I promise to share to the world your lovely life journey, proverbs and food.
Thank you for everything you have given, your lovely spirit, forgiveness and positivity.
Like always mwah mwah mwah,3 kisses until we meet again ya habibti ya Teta. I will always love you ❤️

Palestinians around the world lost a family member yesterday. Shireen Abu Aqleh. I grew up to news from Shireen Abu Aqleh, I used to imitate her famous sign off “Serene Abu Aqleh, Ramallah, Falasteen”. She was truly idolised by many young women I would say.
She was murdered in cold blood yesterday morning while attempting to cover yet another war crime in Jenin.
Despite wearing her Press vest and helmet, she was targeted by a very precise sniper and shot right in the head.
She covered the truth about Palestine for 25 years. Thank you Shireen Abu Aqleh. May justice prevail one day. Rest in power legend.
