Yes, you can (and should) freeze coffee you’re not going to drink in time.
Wait — really? Yes, really.
Here are five quick rules (sorry):
1. Freeze it in the original sealed bag — don’t open it.
2. Freeze it at peak flavour — ideally 2–3 weeks after roast. If your coffee’s already older than 3 months, just drink it: freezing won’t save it.
2. Don’t refreeze. If you want to stretch the bag out, portion the beans and vacuum seal before freezing.
3. Pick the coldest, most stable corner of your freezer — no temperature swings.
4. Let it thaw slowly — take it out the night before and let it come to room temperature before opening.
5. In a regular home freezer, sealed bags can keep for up to a year. The taste might shift a bit — but it won’t fall apart.
