To mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, the Frauenklub “Etna” and the Association of Women Ambassadors of Ukraine invite all sincere friends of Ukraine, everyone who cares deeply about the fate of the Ukrainian people, and all history enthusiasts to a special gathering: a joint screening of the historical drama “Black Raven.”
Released in 2019, the film is based on the novel by Vasyl Shkliar and was filmed using real events and historical documents from declassified KGB archives.
It tells the story of Kholodny Yar in the 1920s—a time when the Ukrainian People’s Republic was already occupied by Bolshevik Russia, yet the Ukrainian resistance did not cease. The insurgents continued to fight for their own state, which the world had already all but written off at that time.
A hundred years later, this story is relevant once again. For even today, Ukraine is once again defending its right to be a free state independent of Russia.
Be sure to invite your Swiss friends, colleagues, and neighbors as well.
This film not only helps us better understand our history but also grasp why, for Ukrainians, today’s war is the continuation of a much longer struggle for independence.
