A mural by Yellowknife artist Derek Simmers has found a new home at Barren Ground Coffee.

And there’s more to it than what you see on the wall!

The mural is part of the Augment YK project, with an augmented-reality layer created by digital artist Jarett Lee Sitter

Download the Artivive app, point your phone at the mural, and watch it come alive.

Come check it out next time you’re downtown.

There are a lot of reasons we love Folk on the Rocks.
The music is incredible, but it's the people that keep us coming back.

Catching up with old friends. Meeting new ones. Watching the next generation discover a festival many of us grew up with.

We're grateful to have been part of it again this year as a sponsor, and to everyone who stopped by the Barren Ground Coffee tent for a coffee, cold brew, or just a chat.
Thanks to the amazing Folk volunteers, organizers, artists, and everyone who made another unforgettable weekend happen.

See you next year. ❤️

From the roastery to Auyuittuq National Park. ☕🏔️

Our instant coffee is made with our roasted coffee, so whether you're hiking Akshayuk Pass, paddling, camping, or just surviving an early Monday, you don't have to settle for bad coffee.

Thanks to Sarah Cook for bringing Barren Ground along on the adventure. ❤️

A small project with a big purpose.

This week, alongside the incredible team at NWT Shift, we installed a new public parklet outside Barren Ground Coffee.

It's open to everyone.

We believe great downtowns are built one small improvement at a time. A bench. A bike rack. A mural. A café. A place to pause, meet a friend, enjoy a coffee, or simply watch the city go by.

At Barren Ground Coffee, we've always believed coffee is about more than what's in the cup. It's about creating places where people feel welcome, connected, and part of their community.

A huge thank you to SHIFTNWT for helping bring this project to life, and to everyone who continues to support our vision for a more vibrant downtown Yellowknife.

If you stop by, grab a seat, enjoy the sunshine, and help us keep it looking great for everyone.
