Well, folks, today’s adventure to the Bernese Mountain Dog Walk at Cox Creek Cellars has taken an unexpected turn. Apparently, our trailer decided it needed a little personal time. And by personal time, we mean an expensive mechanical tantrum.

Our apologies to everyone expecting us today. As much as we love good coffee, great people, and enormous fluffy dogs, we’re also rather fond of keeping all four wheels attached to our trailer.

Days like this happen. You swear a little, question your financial decisions, contemplate selling a kidney, and roll with the punches. Preferably without the wheels rolling off.

Hopefully, we’ll be back on the road soon. Until then, the only thing getting roasted today is our bank account.

We have a policy here at the Goose that all first responders get free coffee when they stop by. This OPP officer only stopped to check if we needed help. His timing couldn't have been better. It's for reasons even as simple as this that we thank them for everything they do. Thank you sir.

Spooky Fact of the date:

Ed and Lorraine Warren were the couple who made ghosts everyone else's problem.

Most couples spend their weekends antiquing or arguing over where to eat. Ed and Lorraine Warren preferred crawling through allegedly demon-infested houses and collecting objects that probably should've been left the hell alone.

Ed was a self taught demonologist. Lorraine claimed to be clairvoyant. Together, they investigated thousands of alleged hauntings, including the infamous Amityville Horror and the Perron family haunting that inspired The Conjuring.

A few disturbing facts about these love birds.

Annabelle was real. Not the terrifying porcelain doll from Hollywood, but an innocent iooking Raggedy Ann doll the Warrens claimed was possessed. Somehow, that's worse.

The Amityville murders were real. Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered six family members in 1974. The supernatural events reported afterward? Still fiercely disputed.

"The Devil made me do it". In 1981, Arne Cheyenne Johnson's murder case became notorious after his defence attempted to invoke demonic possession. The judge wasn't buying it.

Their occult museum housed supposedly cursed objects, including Annabelle, kept behind a specially marked glass case.

Were the Warrens fearless paranormal investigators, brilliant storytellers, or exceptionally talented salespeople selling nightmares to the masses?

Depends on whom you ask.

One thing's crystal clear, if someone tells you a doll is possessed, you don't need a priest, a psychic, or a Hollywood sequel.

You need a quick exit and a new circle of friends.

The Hinterkaifeck Murders.

In 1922, on a remote German farm, six people were brutally unalived. But somehow, the murders weren't even the creepiest part.

Days before the killings, the farmer discovered mysterious footprints leading from the woods toward his house. None appeared to lead back. Strange noises were heard in the attic, and a set of keys had mysteriously vanished.

Then, the entire family was found dead.
And here is where things get particularly disturbing.

Investigators believed someone may have stayed on the property after the murders. The livestock had apparently been fed, and there were signs that someone had continued using the farmhouse.

Imagine unaliving six people and then sticking around to do the the chores.

Over a century later, the case remains officially unsolved.

The most terrifying question isn't just who killed them. It's whether someone had been living above their heads the entire time.

This is exactly why I never wanted a roommate.

A little different spooky post today. Urban legends are always fun this time of year. It's gets the blood pumping, sparks wild imagination, and the stories seem to always remain similar at their core even when shared across distance. Now urban legends are typically never anything but scary stories we tell kids to teach them lessons but some of them come from very real places.

So let's start with Cropsey.

Staten Island, New York. The 1970s.

Every neighbourhood has its urban legends. The creepy house, the abandoned asylum, the lunatic supposedly living in the woods. Usually it's just a bunch of kids scaring the absolute s**t out of each other.

Except sometimes, the nightmare has a mailing address.

For years, Staten Island kids whispered about Cropsey, a deranged killer lurking around the abandoned buildings and woods near Willowbrook State School.

But then one day children actually started disappearing.

Enter Andre Rand. Former Willowbrook employee, convicted s*x offender, and a man whose resume made the fictional boogeyman look like a respectable candidate for neighbourhood watch.

In 1987, twelve year old Jennifer Schweiger disappeared. Her body was later discovered buried near Willowbrook. Rand was convicted of her kidnapping and, years later, the kidnapping of another missing girl, Holly Ann Hughes.

Other disappearances remain unsolved.

Was Rand the legendary Cropsey? Not exactly. The folklore existed before his crimes became publicly connected to it.

But here's the particularly unpleasant punchline... sometimes the monster isn't hiding under your bed. He's wandering around the neighbourhood, looking perfectly ordinary.

Happy Thanksgiving, you beautiful people!

Here's to another year of questionable decisions, dysfunctional family gatherings, awkward conversations, and pretending we've got this whole life thing figured out.

Life's a strange little circus. Some days you're the ringmaster, other days you're the poor bastard cleaning up after the elephants.

But there's still plenty to be thankful for. We're thankful for good friends, our customers, decent people, a few hard earned laughs, and the ones who stick around when life turns into a complete s**tshow.

So raise a glass to the people who make this ridiculous existence worth showing up for. Appreciate what you've got, remember those who aren't around the table anymore, and try not to strangle that one relative who thinks every gathering needs a political debate.

Happy Thanksgiving, Canada. Be grateful, be kind, and for the love of God, don't be an a**hole.

The concept of trick or treating has several grim roots. One of its main ancestors is "souling" from medieval Britain. On All Souls’ Day, the desperately poor and children would go door to door begging for "soul cakes" (spiced, circular buns). In exchange for the food, the "soulers" promised to pray for the household's dead relatives to help get them out of purgatory.

I mean, I'd still take a soul cake...
