To our beloved Kind community,
After six beautiful, transformative years, we will be closing the doors of The Kind Café on June 20. This has been one of the deepest joys and greatest callings of my life, to create a space of nourishment and connection right here in Whitehorse.
This decision did not come lightly. Over the past many months, I explored every possibility to keep this space alive, including seeking a buyer who could carry it forward with integrity. But in the end, I came to understand that preserving what we’ve built means allowing it to close in the same spirit in which it was created: with integrity, care, and a deep honouring of its essence.
These past months have been a powerful teacher in impermanence. After the sudden loss of my mum earlier this year, I’ve found myself in a deeper relationship with letting go, not only as and ending but as a sacred passage. Her spirit is woven through every corner of this place and her death has shaped the way I’ve come to meet this decision: with surrender, softness, and a reverence for endings. In many ways, this closing is an act of honouring: of her, of this chapter, and of the truth that some things are not meant to be handed off, but gently laid to rest.
The Kind Café has never been just a café. It has been a community, a home, a support system and a soft place to land. It was built with heart, care, and the quiet magic of everyday rituals. Its values: personal and planetary wellbeing, wholeness, kindness, connection - will continue to guide me.
As we move toward our final day, we’ll be doing our best to keep the menu stocked. That said, some items may become unavailable as we wind things down. We so hope you’ll stop by in the coming days to share a final moment with us.
To each of you who walked through our doors, who shared a meal, a story, or a moment of pause: thank you. You made this place what it is. And to my team, past and present, your care and commitment have meant the world. The Kind Café never would have existed without any of you.
This isn’t the end of the story, but a meaningful turning point - one I carry forward with deep gratitude.
With all my heart,
Meghan
