Well everyone I’ve been dreading writing this post but it’s time. After a lot of discussion with my friend and partner Tom, we’ve decided not to run the truck this summer. Our contract with The Harbour Cats is cancelled again, we’re losing our parking/work space mid summer and there’s just too much uncertainty about everything. It all started when we lost all of our December catering gigs due to the health restrictions. To be honest, I’ve scraped by this winter and spring and financially can’t take a leap of faith again this summer. I’ve been offered a very lucrative job at a boutique, high end fishing lodge on the north island and plain and simply need to go where the guaranteed money is. It’s honestly been one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make in my life. I want to say how much I love cooking for you guys in the truck. I’ve done a lot in my career and it’s been the most rewarding by far. I’ll be back mid September and for now, we plan to run through mid November until our catering season kicks off. These words are literally hard to type but were sure it’s what’s best for us in the long run. I hope everyone has an amazing summer down the homestretch of this incredibly tough situation. Rest assured we WILL be back to fill your tummies before you know it. Thanks so much to all of our supporters. You know who you are.

So today I’m announcing that the last day for our 2020 season will be next Sunday the 15th.
I never imagined at 41, after dedicating 26 years to this craft I would be in a situation where I learned so much in a few months. It’s been an exciting, rewarding adventure and I can’t wait to get back at it next year.
I wanna thank Mariah, Adrian and Kristen for giving us our first traveling gigs Such an amazing group of people. Janine and for getting behind us on social media . Bill and Julia Clarke for their never ending support and Andrew for his kind words and advice when we were first starting. Lastly of course, thank you so much to all the people who came and ate at the truck.
I tried to put together a well rounded menu that would appeal to a large demographic with something for everyone. I really hope you all enjoyed your experience with us and one last time I CANT wait to get back at it next year. Come see us before then.
Expect. Great. Food. 🔪🔪

Just a small adjustment as we figure out a fall routine. Wednesday Thursday we’ll be open 3 till 7 for late lunch and dinner options, Friday all day from 12 to 7 and Saturday Sunday 12 till 6. Come say hi. Chicken and wild rice soup is fresh off the stove and I’m gonna finish it with crispy fried chicken skins which are basically the best thing on earth. Come try some as the days quickly get colder. .

Here’s the fall update. The rib descriptor is missing the word “slaw” next to apple sesame but since my artist works for bourbon we allow 1 screw up per menu....
Big thanks to for being awesome.

Everyone needs a simple, delicious bread recipe. Shane Harwood taught me this one a few years back. Don’t ask me where my keys are but this recipe is locked in the “vault” for good. It’s perfect for sopping up soup. Don’t take my word for it. Come see us all week at 3666 saanich road from 12 till 6 pm.

Soup season is here. To kick of “The Black Cauldron” we have fish chowder with wild salmon and lingcod, oyster stock and russet potatoes or Red lentil soup with smoked tomato purée cumin and coriander. After 5 seasons in tofino and the last two at a fishing lodge my chowder game is strong. And the lentil soup is vegan. They’re both served with freshly baked bread and lemon herb garlic butter. Like a hug for your tummy. Come see us 12 Tim 6 at 3666 saanich road. Let the fall food season begin. Yay. .
