For nearly 20 years, we reported that the tree roots in front of our café on Commercial Drive created a dangerous sidewalk — especially for seniors and people with disabilities trying to pass safely.

Despite years of complaints from our community, nothing changed. Only after nearby developments were completed was the tree removed and the sidewalk repaired.

This is not about blaming anyone. It’s about asking why small businesses and local residents had to wait nearly two decades to be heard.

City of Vancouver — are you listening?
