In Florence, in 1919, Count Camillo Negroni ordered an Americano at Casoni Bar. Then he asked the bartender to replace the soda with gin.

The bartender obliged. The Count returned for another. Before long, other guests were asking for “Negroni’s drink,” too.

A century later, we still make it much as they did: gin, campari and sweet vermouth, stirred over ice and finished with an orange. It’s bitter edge has never softened everyone. Perhaps that is why those who love it love it so much.

Negroni Week may be over, but we see no reason to wait another year to raise a glass to the Count.
