Should’ve switched to decaf before bedtime. 💤

The Zeigarnik Effect ☕

In the 1920s, Russian psychologist Bluma Zeigarnik was sitting in a Vienna café when she noticed something curious. Waiters could remember complex orders perfectly, but the second a bill was paid, the memory vanished.

Her lab research revealed a simple truth: our brains remember unfinished tasks far better than completed ones.

That’s why you can lie in bed at 2am replaying an email you didn’t send. Or why the thing you forgot to do keeps pulling at your attention all day.

Your brain isn’t broken. It’s doing exactly what it evolved to do. Unfinished tasks stay active in your memory, waiting to be completed.

But here’s what Zeigarnik discovered: writing something down gives your brain permission to let it go. You don’t have to finish the task. You just have to capture it.

That’s why the best mornings start with a list, not a scroll. Get it out of your head. Free up the space.

☕ Start your morning with intention.
