Mrs Robinson

Mrs Robinson It's not who you think it is. Not about a song or a movie. It's about a movement. She's the mother of a music that's timeless. It’s not who you think it is.
(204)

It's not about a woman or a man. Not about a song. Or a movie. It’s about a movement. She’s the mother of a music that’s timeless. The woman on top of Sugarhill. The woman behind the scenes. And behind one of the most singular moments in the genre. Producer. Creator. Inspiration. And Namesake. If you live for the music, you're in her house.

A little football. A little soul.

World Cup action on the screens, old school sounds on the speakers, and an atmosphere worth sticking around for.

The way it ought to be.

This Black History Month, we cannot forget to honour Sylvia Robinson— a pioneer, a powerhouse, and a woman who changed music forever.

Known as the Mother of Hip-Hop, Sylvia Robinson was a singer, producer, and label founder who helped introduce hip-hop to the world when few believed in it. “She is credited with recognizing the potential of the rap scene and driving the success of groundbreaking acts like the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five.” She amplified unheard voices, created space where there was none, and led with vision in an industry that rarely made room for Black women.

“Mrs Robinson Toronto” is named after her as a tribute to that legacy — bold, creative, and unapologetically influential. This is more than a name. It’s respect. It’s remembrance. It’s recognition.

Here’s to powerful Black women in music — past, present, and always.
