Fan motor fiasco update: Got the new motor, installed it, but it wasn’t turning the right way, so I took it out and brought it back to the shop so Dominic could change some wires to make it spin in the right direction.
Reinstalled, this time under an umbrella because it was raining, gathered everything up, and slipped off the ladder coming down and landed on my back.
Well, I got back in, tested the exhaust extraction, and it seems to be fine.
As far as the fall goes, I’ve fallen off a bike enough times to know I’ll be a bit stiff tomorrow but otherwise I should be good to go.
Here’s Mr. Fan, all the way from Toronto, my newest employee:

Exhaust Fan Motor Update: Motor has arrived in town, too late to install it on Monday, but I should have it in Tuesday morning and will start restocking the fridges for a Wednesday reopening. I sure miss the old days of making a bit of pocket money.

UPDATE 3: Motor has arrived in town, too late to install it on Monday, but I should have it in Tuesday morning and will start restocking the fridges. I sure miss the old days of making a bit of pocket money.

UPDATE 2: No motor yet. Hoping it arrives Monday or Tuesday so I can open Wednesday. The original motor lasted 30 years, its replacement lasted…15 years? I don’t want to even think…

UPDATE: Motor ordered- possible Saturday opening but more likely next Wednesday.

The motor for the kitchen exhaust fan died, and there isn’t a replacement in town. Which means I’m closed Wednesday and Thursday for sure. Waiting on supply news. Will update when I know.

This motor is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone to meet its maker. It's a stiff. Bereft of life, it rests in peace. It will be pushing up the daisies. It's kicked the bucket. It's shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. THIS IS AN EX-MOTOR.

I saw a post somewhere asking if malted shakes were sold in town. I don’t know, but just saw this at the Wholesale Club. I didn’t buy it.

Server Clara thinks she’s figured out how to duplicate the flavour of the iced cap from a certain coffee chain. Since any version made here would use real espresso and milk, and not just a powder mix, I think we could do better. In any case, we’ll work on it until warmer weather hits. [I can hear server Jaime going “Gaahh, my life is ruined!” at this idea.]

New cup shelf that I built on the weekend. Yes, I’m one of those guys who blows the dust off a jigsaw blade like a gunslinger blowing away the smoke from his pistol.

The one furnace trick I know from experience:

If your furnace stops working when it’s extremely cold, here’s one thing to check before you call for help:
1. Turn off the power to the furnace. There should be a switch nearby.
2. Go outside and look for ice buildup in the furnace intake.
3. If you see any, carefully chip it away with something long and sharp enough to reach it, but try not to push it inside.
4. Turn the furnace back on and wait five minutes.
5. Even if there was no ice, turning a furnace off for a few minutes can sometimes reset its computer, and it may restart on its own.

The quest for a personal cup will continue. This has the right volume for 200g of milk, slightly foamed, and four shots of espresso, but it’s just a bit too tall.
I could make two cups and pour it into this one but that defeats my requirement to steam and extract with as few steps as possible.
I could use a squat bowl-shaped cup but then I would feel like I’m a character in one of the Bake Shop Mystery movies.
