This year, we’re getting behind the Canadien boys.

We’ll be showing every Habs game at The Backyard, with sound on for the series and the big screen ready to go. The full schedule is in the graphic, starting Thursday May 21 at 5pm.

Quick note for Game 1: seating will be limited from 6pm onwards and we won't have sound as we celebrate Dr. Brenda Millar’s career and her work with the Sea to Sky Hospice Society, but we’ll still have the game on and do our best to look after everyone.

Bring your jersey, bring your optimism, and maybe bring whatever superstition got them this far.

A quick heads up for this week at The Backyard.

Thursday, May 21 from 6pm onwards
We’ll have limited seating while we celebrate Dr. Brenda Millar’s career and all the work she has done with the Sea to Sky Hospice Society. She’s a true pillar of this community, and we’re grateful to help mark the occasion.

Saturday, May 23
We’ll be opening late at 3pm while the Axemen Rugby Club celebrate another successful season with their awards ceremony.

We do our best to keep disruptions to regular service to a minimum, but we make exceptions for important community gatherings. Thanks for understanding, Valleycliffe.

We’re on day three of lunch, and honestly, the feedback has meant a lot.

We pulled together a few kind words from Facebook, Instagram, and Google from folks who have already come by to try it. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to let us know what you think, it genuinely helps as we get this new service up and running.

Here’s to many more lunches in Valleycliffe.

Here’s what’s happening this week at The Backyard.

Lunch is officially rolling from 12pm to 3pm, Monday to Friday, so you can now sneak in for a proper midday pub stop.

This week we’ve got:

Monday: Kids eat half price, milkshake menu, and our official lunch launch
Tuesday: $5 off burgers
Wednesday: Trivia with Shane Fry at 7:30pm
Thursday: Local taps $6 and Euchre Club
Friday: Dentville Ginger Beer cocktails for $10
Saturday: Steamworks taps $6
Sunday: Brunch from 11am to 2pm, followed by free live music with Ted Kim from 5pm to 8pm

Come by for lunch, dinner, a pint, a game, a song, or whatever version of a pub visit your week needs.

Introducing what might become the star of our lunch menu.

Our grilled cheese and tomato bisque has been getting a lot of attention behind the scenes while we’ve been testing lunch, and honestly, we’ve put a slightly unreasonable amount of effort into getting it right.

Five cheese blend on sourdough, finished on the flat top for that extra crisp edge, served with tomato basil bisque for dipping. Comfort food done properly.

If you want to level it up, you can add:
• caramelized onion and bacon
• smoked ham and roasted red pepper
• capicola and banana peppers

We’ve also got sandwiches, salads, flatbreads and a few lighter lunch options rolling out too. Have a look through the menu in the photo and let us know what catches your eye.

With all that summer-like weather, we almost forgot it was still spring in BC.

This weekend’s forecast, along with the temporary lift of the fire ban, shoutout to the DoS, has been a small reality check. Rain is still very much part of the deal around here.

That said, it’s also a good reminder of how great the pub feels on those grey, rainy days. Here’s a shot from the [email protected] , who celebrated her birthday yesterday, so a very big happy birthday to her.

Sorry, no staff party this year. We bought a glass chiller.

We decided it was time to live up to our WiFi password and offer even colder beer. With summer rolling in, we’ve splurged on a glass chiller that gets the glasses down to -15, doing our small part to make what is shaping up to be a hot summer a little more bearable.

PS. We were kidding about the staff party.

Today we’re celebrating the special women in our lives at The Backyard, with good food, free live music, and a pretty lovely little atmosphere if we do say so ourselves.

We’ve got a Mother’s Day double header today, with Ella Mathison playing live from 11am to 2pm during brunch, followed by JennaMae from 5pm to 8pm for dinner service.

So whatever Mom wants, Mom gets.

As long as it’s either brunch with live music or dinner with live music. We can only do so much.

As always, the music is free for everyone.
