An editing error caused a mistake in the article on the top of Page 3 of the Lakeside Leader. Woodland Cree First Nation Chief Isaac Laboucan was not arrested. The article should have said Obsidian Energy asked the RCMP to arrest him for setting up what they called a blockade. He was not arrested. The article was edited by Chris Clegg (editor for the South Peace News). Please see apology letter on The Leader's website and in the June 5 Lakeside Leader. The version on The Leader's website, but we can't do anything about the print version.

This is what the the small grass fire in Slave Lake looked like on May 13 (three days after it burned).
Fires in town aren't included in the Slave Lake Forest Area Wildfire Update, because they fall under the jurisdiction of the town not Alberta Wildfire. The Leader staff had taken a social media break on the weekend, so hear about this fire after the publication deadline for the May 15 paper. However, once we heard about it we got some details from the Lesser Slave Regional Fires Service and Alberta Wildfire. See below:
On Friday, May 10 around 7 p.m., Lesser Slave Lake Regional Fire Service and Alberta Wildfire responded to a brush and grass fire north of Roland Michener Secondary School.
“Due to winds it was moving quickly to the east,” says Chief Alex Pavcek, of Lesser Slave Regional Fire Service. “The fire did not threaten any structures and was contained with a quick response. No train had passed through for some time, the fire is being treated as suspicious and under investigation at this time.”
“Alberta Wildfire responded with six wildland firefighters,” says Leah Lovequist, Slave Lake Wildfire Information Officer, “a wildland fire engine and a truck with water tank to assist the Slave Lake Fire Department in fighting the grass fire.”
