This is the first Father's Day without my Dad. Everything is still pretty fresh, so this weekend I'm celebrating the things he taught me that I'm thankful for.

Because of Dad, I'm not afraid to try fixing my own equipment. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I always give it a shot. Whenever I tackled a repair, he'd ask if I still had all my fingers. I still have all ten, Dad.

Because of Dad, I'm a good listener. He had a gift for listening without trying to fix everything. He taught me how important silence can be in a conversation.

And because of Dad, I'm an adventurer. I'm willing to try. If it works out, great. If it doesn't, I've learned something and usually have a good story to tell.

To all the Dads, Uncles, Grandpas, Step-Dads, Brothers, Cousins, and anyone who steps into that Dad role—thank you for the lessons that stay with us for a lifetime.

Happy Father's Day Weekend from all of us at Crunchy Dog. Give your Dad an extra-big hug, and maybe take him out for some ice cream. I know I'll be having some in celebration of my Dad, Lyle. Love you lots.

Prairie Ice Cream Social Co., the mobile version of Crunchy Dog, has partnered with Intentions Yoga, the Saskatoon SPCA, and The Real Housecats of SasKAToon for an afternoon of yoga, ice cream, and a good cause.
