Good news! These awesome staff are a part of our work toward paying living wages to everyone - even if you're just scooping ice cream. (Mind you, these guys were engineers yesterday fixing the machine!)

We pay our team $25-26/hour, with the agreement that all profits and tips fund One Straw Society's food security work. Of course, most of those tips are going back to staff to keep those wages, but any extra is building our community as a whole.

This is a win-win, as staff get a consistent paycheque even when business is slow, and we know that we're doing all we can to keep people out of the food bank lineups - WAGES are the single biggest reason for food insecurity in Canada.

You can choose not to tip at all (without offending anyone), or tip knowing that you're supporting community gardens, free community dinners, subsidized foodboxes, and the Fruit Share Project - a fruit rescue program. In fact, your fresh fruit soft serve is featuring a lot of that locally harvested fruit!

Pop by tonight - we're open 12 - 8pm for a swirly cone and a sunset wander down the Roberts Creek pier.

Thanks all, for coming by as we get rolling here on our opening weekend! It was so great to meet all of you yesterday! Thank you for your patience as we make each cone fresh for you - this isn't basic soft-serve. We're grinding real fruit into your swirly whirly - everything is local, fresh, and sustainable.

Today, we're going to be using MORE FRUIT! We're also trying it out without the star tip to prevent fruit chunks from jamming the machine, so your cones might look a bit weird today! Experimenting!

🥰 Here's the good news about this special little hub:

1. Your treats are ethical, local, fresh, and made right in front of you. Ingredients are from local farms (like this week's strawberries from Swiya/Salish Regenerative Farm and Grounded Acres Organic Farm, or we've picked them ourselves through the Sunshine Coast Fruit Share Project - a food rescue program picking beautiful backyard fruit bounty that would otherwise go to waste. We're saving bears & bellies at once.

2. 100% of profits (every penny) supports your community's food security and food resiliency through One Straw Society - community gardens, the Sunshine Coast Tool Library, subsidized farm foodboxes for people in need, food workshops and events, and more. www.onestraw.ca
