The Repair Cafe Port Coquitlam is back again this month on Saturday, August 8 from 10am-2pm at 1737 Broadway St in PoCo. Repair volunteers are on hand to help fix your textiles, jewelry, toys, small appliances and more 🧵💍🧸🪛🚲. While here, chat with the City of Port Coquitlam's Environmental Program Ambassador about bear awareness and good recycling habits in the city. Let's fix it together and keep our stuff out the landfills!! (First come first served).

The PoCo Repair Café recently welcomed a SFU student research team to learn more about the impact of repair culture in our community.

If you've attended a Repair Café as a visitor, volunteer, or fixer, you are invited to complete their survey. Your feedback helps support research on sustainability, waste reduction, and community connection.

Happy 7th Anniversary, PoCo Repair Café! 🎉

Seven years ago, a dedicated group of volunteers came together with a shared passion for sustainability and repair. Operated by the Rotary Club of Port Coquitlam Centennial and supported by the City, the PoCo Repair Café has since helped save hundreds of household items from the landfill while giving cherished possessions a second life.

Over the years, we’ve welcomed new volunteers, shared valuable repair skills, and connected with countless community members who have trusted us with their treasured items. Thank you to everyone who has visited, volunteered, donated, and supported this community initiative.

Join us for our 57th PoCo Repair Café on Saturday, June 6, from 10:00am to 2:00pm at 1737 Broadway Street. Arrive early and bring your items for repair—we look forward to seeing you there!

Here’s to many more years of repairing, learning, and keeping useful items out of the landfill.

Over the last few years at Poco Repair Cafe, we've all seen some interesting things come in for repair. Or kinda strange. Or just classic vintage. Let’s share!!!

During our last event, a 92 year old gentleman brought in a spotlessly clean toaster oven. He said it once belonged to his mother-in-law. It turns out that this particular model may well have been the world's first toaster oven: a 1957 General Electric model 85T83 Toast-R-Oven.

Chrome Art Deco/Mid-century design
Two control k***s:
Left k**b: Toasting level
Right k**b: Mode selector (Oven / Toaster).

It was a standard two slice machine but the interesting aspect was, when "oven" mode was selected, a pair of interior panels would open up and allow the heat to radiate downwards into the oven section which was just large enough for a couple of small items. Quite ingenious. See the pictures.

To answer the unspoken question .... yes, it was fixed. It just needed a new plug. ♻️🍞🔧 🧡

The Repair Cafe Port Coquitlam returns this month on Saturday, May 2, from 10am to 2pm at 1737 Broadway Street in PoCo (next to the firehall).

Volunteer fixers will be available to help repair textiles, jewelry, toys, small appliances, and more! Bring your items, work together, and help keep usable goods out of the landfill!

Please note it is first come first served, and donations are gratefully accepted!
