Today I walk alongside so many great organizations, friends, colleagues and family. Together. 🫡🧡

My heart goes out to the community in Kamloops. I’ve seen what has happened recently, and I want you to know I stand behind you and with you. Sending strength, love and support to the community.

Great way to start the day 🔥👨🏽‍🍳

Got to meet Chef Don and other international chefs today and talk about Mr Bannock, Indigenous foods and travelling across Turtle Island sharing my food, culture and stories.

For me, there are no borders as an Indigenous person. I have family on both sides of what is now Canada and the US. Turtle Island is home, and food has given me the opportunity to travel across it, connect with people and share where I come from.

Today I got to share stories with chefs from the US, Taiwan and India. Different cultures and different foods, but food always gives us a place to connect. 🔥

It also felt great being around the BC Chefs Association again. Full-circle moment going back to where I started as a culinary student at VCC, and now coming back after years of travelling and sharing Indigenous food and stories.

Teaming up with my friends from Sodexo at Bow Valley College in Calgary, we served up lunch in the main cafeteria before heading over to a private event in the North Building. 🙌🏽

I got to speak about Indigenous foods, share some stories, and talk about the work and travels I’ve been fortunate to experience around Turtle Island. I connected with staff and students, and before our time was up, I got to sit down with a handful of people and talk about working and learning alongside Elders and Knowledge Keepers from other Nations.

We’re all cousins 😉 and wherever I travel around Turtle Island, I always feel welcomed and appreciated. 🫡❤️

We cooked up some deadly food for the cafeteria and a private function, and I got to connect with chefs, students, teachers, Elders and Knowledge Keepers about the food and stories I get to share across Turtle Island. 🪶🔥

I was asked to come cook some deer stew today, so I did 🙂🦌

Made up a big pot of deer stew with some fresh bannock and got to share a few stories along the way — about how my uncle used to bring home deer, elk and moose, and how my granny used to make the best bannock.

Food has always been more than just food for me. It brings back memories, connects us to family, and gives us a chance to share those stories with the next generation.

Pretty good way to spend the day ❤️
