We have been asked: "How did you two end up here?" “Whats your story?” So here's the real story.
Sterling and Jessica actually go way back — high school friends who graduated and went their own directions in life. Years passed, but stayed connected as Facebook friends the whole time. Eventually, that old friendship found its way back to us, and we got married right here on the island (Sooke)— the place we now call home.
Restaurants and catering aren't new to either of us. Sterling grew up in it — his mom spent her life managing and owning restaurants, and running catering on the side. Jessica's spent years in the restaurant business herself. Between the two of us, we currently run a catering business in Virginia, too.
We always figured we'd move to the island eventually — maybe when we retired, “someday." But somewhere along the way, we asked ourselves why we were waiting. So we didn't.
That's when we fell for Mrs. Riches. We got to know the Wong family — Rick, Ron, and Ger — who built this place over 43 years, and we knew right away we didn't want to change what made it special. It's always been eclectic — the kind of place where every wall has something to look at, something with a story. We're keeping that spirit exactly as it is.
What we do want to do is keep filling those walls — not just with things that mean something to us, but with things that mean something to this community. We're just adding new stories to the walls — ours, and yours. If you've got something that belongs on these walls, we want to hear about it. This has always been a family restaurant. We just want it to feel like everyone's family.
Same heart. New chapter. We can't wait to see you in here.
