Now I can confess more layered weddings stuff. J+S ran off and eloped in January (it was FUN). They already had The VOW Cabin booked in July. By dividing they days, they had the emotional bandwidth to both intentionally marry each other and to celebrate with their most important people, coming from as far away as England. So here in #2, we had a family handfasting. And lots of rain (but you know what they say...a wet knot is harder to untie..:)) Enjoy these sublime images from Folklore Stories Photography.

I led what may have been the most hilarious wedding ceremony of my career on Saturday. It was outrageous. And absolutely perfect for the couple.

People started cheering during the entrance. We had some wicked fun with family stories. The energy in that space was so big and so joyful and everyone was completely, utterly in it. Even all the kids.

And I was far too involved in the ceremony to take a single photo. Or even think about it. I cannot WAIT to see what you captured.

In the meantime, here's a pic of the world's best french fries. Proof that I DO take photos when I have time, even if if it's just my reward meal afterward. Because apparently this is the kind of wedding content I provide now.😁🤪😁

Over the past few years, I’ve been doing more of what I’m starting to think of as layered weddings: ceremonies in chapters. Couples have all told me the same thing…they knew they didn’t have the emotional bandwidth to go big, deep, and wide all at the same time. So they’ve divided the celebration into layers

I’m actually doing two of them this week.

Yesterday started with an early morning private handfasting in an orchard in a public park. Grounded, intentional, and deep.
We left the altar standing through the day, and later that afternoon, their closest family and friends came back for a pretty boisterous solstice wedding ceremony (think jumping the broom while cheering “Hell yeah!”)

The one later this week is spread out over months, not hours. I won’t say too much because there’s a surprise element.
In this next layer, their families are coming together from different corners of the world. And they want enough space around the day to enjoy that…to watch their people meet, feel their families connect, and be present for gathering that may never happen in quite the same way again.
And they don’t want to miss it.

I’ve done others, too. In different layers and different ways.

I love that that these couples knew the usual wedding shape wasn’t quite right for them. So they paid attention: to their capacity, their people, and the kind of presence they wanted to have.

And because of that, they were able to be fully there for everything that mattered. Big, deep and wide….not just all at the same time.

Maybe one of the lingering gifts from those Covid years is that more couples are seeing that a wedding doesn’t have to hold everything all at once.

(ha ha, just made that one up 😉😁)
