THE SORA RABBIT FOLK TALE
One night, the Man on the Moon came to earth disguised as a beggar. He met a Fox, a Monkey and a Rabbit, and asked for food. The Fox brought fish and the Monkey brought fruit, but the Rabbit only had grass. So, he built a fire and offered himself. The Man on the Moon, amazed by the Rabbit’s generosity, saved him and took him to the moon. Now, you can see the Rabbit’s outline pounding mochi on the full moon.

Une nuit, l’Homme sur la Lune descendit sur Terre, déguisé en mendiant. Il rencontra un Renard, un Singe et un Lapin, et leur demanda de la nourriture. Le Renard apporta du poisson, le Singe des fruits, mais le Lapin, lui, n’avait que de l’herbe. Alors, il alluma un feu et s’y jeta, s’offrant en sacrifice. Touché par sa générosité, l’Homme sur la Lune le sauva et l’emmena avec lui. Depuis ce jour, on peut voir la silhouette du Lapin en train de préparer du mochi sur la pleine Lune.
