The Medway Area Heritage Society is such a lovely and welcoming group to be part of. You do not need to be an expert researcher, or a historian, or someone with generations of family roots here. You can just be curious.
If you are a fan of old buildings, cemeteries, family stories, photos, lighthouses, shipbuilding, local mysteries, archives, maps, art, architecture, gossip from 1897, or literally almost anything else, there is probably a Port Medway area tie-in waiting to be found.
And if you have a different special interest than the ones listed above? Truly, bring it. The fun of local history is realizing that almost everything connects back to place somehow.
Last year we held a Show and Tell here at the café, where people brought in and talked about old photos and objects and stories. It was such a fun night! We got to hear from our neighbours about what they know, what they remember, what they’ve found tucked away, or what they’ve always wondered about.
We’re hoping to do more things like that, and this is a great time for new people to get involved.
The next meeting is Wednesday, June 10th at 7pm at The Old Meeting House 162 Long Cove Rd.
No expertise needed, just enthusiasm!
