As of March 31st 2023 Karouzo’s Restaurant is no more 😢. We have sold to Peter Kim and wish him and his family the very best in their new endeveur. Karouzos was not just a building where we worked. It was our entire life. We raised three kids there, celebrated births, birthdays, weddings, bridal showers, stags and stagettes, funerals, graduations, Elena’s University acceptance and everything else in between. We laughed, we danced we cried. Those walls have heard a lot of secrets and went through everything with us. Karouzo’s prided itself on being a safe space for all. We had loyal guests from around the world 🌎 that would come back over and over again so happy that their favourites were still there. We made everything from scratch, sauces and marinades were not pre bought. We used the best quality ingredients always. We used family recipes that haven’t even been written down on paper. It was as authentic Greek as you could get. We’ve gotten a lot of Congratulations lately and while it is nice to hear, we are also very sad which many do not understand. Like Elena said “I was raised here since I was four, grew up in this place, it’s my identity”. It was all we knew for the last 20 years so it’s going to take some time, to open new doors and make new memories outside of Karouzo’s ❤️. We’re sincerely going to miss all of our regular locals and non locals. We’re going to miss our staff that have become family. We’re going to miss all the people from around the world that we met and had yet to meet. If you pass our house and smell that souvlaki on the BBQ or pizza in the oven give a knock on the door and we are happy to share 🤗 ✌️

Happy Thanksgiving! Karouzo’s Steakhouse is now closed for the 2022 season. We want to first of all thank our amazing staff for working with us as we could not have done it without them. Also thank you to all of our guests near and far for your support over this season and seasons past❤️ We’re excited to slow down for a bit and see family that we haven’t seen for a very long time.

We are happy to report that ATCO was successful in switching Jasper from the temporary generator system to the transmission line. Jasper now has sufficient, stable and reliable power, and we are able and eager to safely welcome visitors back to the community.

The Municipality of Jasper would like to acknowledge and thank Parks Canada and ATCO for all the dedicated equipment and resources they have devoted to battling the Chetamon wildfire and to restoring electric power to our community, with particular emphasis on their human resources.

The Parks Canada crews on the fire line, in the air, and in other important roles; the ATCO crews working on site to configure, install and align the generators; those working within the town to restore power; those who worked so effectively and efficiently to repair and restore the damaged transmission line; and those working in other places sourcing equipment and providing technical support to those on the ground here in Jasper.

To all, we extend our deepest thanks and appreciation and lasting gratitude.

We also thank our community members who have responded with such understanding and support. Residents who have suffered their own losses in so many ways, yet have responded overwhelmingly with patience, goodwill, calmness, kindness, and support.

To our commercial sector, who have understood, accepted, and supported our priorities, who have recognized that we are all members of one cohesive community we offer our deep appreciation.

We acknowledge and thank those many businesses who voluntarily acquired their own generators and committed to remain on that source of power to free-up load capacity for critical infrastructure, for residents and for essential services until a long-term solution had been achieved.

And to those visitors who were able to change their plans in the midst of everything happening here in Jasper, we thank you for your cooperation and for your consideration. We look forward to seeing you in Jasper soon.

Well friends, it’s been a very rough week for us. Feeling very “covid like” right now. We are planning to re-open AGAIN Friday. We’re feeling a little defeated at the moment but don’t want to end our season this way. We want our usual farewells and goodbyes to our loyal locals and to have a bit more time with the amazing tourists visiting our community ❤️. We want to thank everyone for their support during this hard time. The phone calls, the messages and the wine 🍷. The fire 🔥 is still holding at 15km away from the community. The firefighters and pilots and Atco have been working tirelessly day and night to keep our community safe. We’re going to try our very best to have most of our menu available. There may be select items unavailable or very limited depending on the day ✌️

The town of Jasper continues to face the challenge of the total loss of transmitted grid power to the entire community.

As ATCO continues work to restore power to all segments of the community through generators, and has achieved some welcomed success, the limitations of the temporary generators remain evident.

For electric power restoration, the Municipality of Jasper has prioritized, in order: critical infrastructure; residents; essential services - which includes gas stations, grocery stores, banks, and pharmacies; and other commercial users. These priorities will guide all required decision-making regarding the allocation of available power within the community.

We anticipate that intermittent outages will continue so long as we remain connected to generator power, which ATCO has indicated will be for the next few weeks. We urge all individuals and businesses to continue to conserve as much power as possible.

While we typically welcome visitors with open arms, now is not the ideal time to visit Jasper: we cannot provide reliable and stable power; and the Chetamon wildfire remains active, with potential to evolve rapidly. Any visitors who can change their travel plans are strongly recommended to do so.

The town of Jasper continues to face the challenge of the total loss of transmitted grid power to the entire community.

As ATCO works to restore power to all segments of the community through generators, the technical complexities and load limitations of the temporary generators have become increasingly evident.

At this time, 90% of the Jasper townsite has received consistent power from the ATCO generators for over 20 hours.

Saying that, anticipate that there will be intermittent outages over the next few weeks. These outages have impacted essential services including food and gas, which will continue to be limited as the power remains unstable.

While we typically welcome visitors with open arms, now is not the ideal time to visit Jasper. We cannot provide reliable and stable power, and the Chetamon wildfire situation is evolving rapidly. Any visitors who can change their travel plans are strongly recommended to do so.

The Municipality of Jasper and Parks Canada are working together on short to mid-term contingency plans to ensure essential services such as fuel and food in grocery stores remain available. We are also endeavouring to ensure our seniors and vulnerable population are looked after, should another extended power outage take place.

ATCO is still assessing damage, however, has confirmed the extent of the known existing damage to the overhead transmission line will take ‘weeks’ to repair.

To reduce load and allow more parts of the community to receive power, the Municipality has reverted to operating the Wastewater Treatment Plant with its own back-up generator capacity. We are still without reliable, consistent generator power supplied by ATCO, and current power to the community will be redirected to the Wastewater Treatment Plant if required.

If power demand exceeds capacity, we will be required to make decisions to limit demand to ensure critical services can be supported.
