WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK & WEEKEND AT SMOKIN HOT BBQ!

Well, the leaves have changed colours, and we’ve celebrated the arrival of so many visitors who came to experience the beauty Mother Nature has to share with us here in Muskoka. What a fall it’s been!

Now the leaves have fallen, and we’re all getting ready for the next season ahead… WINTER! ā„ļø Ha! It sounds worse than it actually is!

We’ll be taking a little break after this weekend before returning in December, but don’t worry, we’ve got plenty planned to keep things rolling through the winter months!

šŸŽ„A LITTLE SNEAK PEEK AT DECEMBER!

We’ll be open every Saturday from noon to 9 PM, with live music every Saturday! Great BBQ, great music, and that good ol’ Smokin Hot atmosphere ..

Every Friday in December, we’ll be hosting private Christmas parties, so we won’t be open on Fridays.

And mark your calendars for
Thursday, December 17
we’ll be hosting a special Christmas concert featuring Sean Cotton and guests! Enjoy Christmas songs and favourites from Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, and many more. It’ll be an evening of great music, Christmas cheer, and good food. Email Andrea to reserve your table!

Now, let’s talk about THIS WEEK!

šŸ”Ž Wednesday — Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre

SOLD OUT! This one sold out before I even had a chance to write a post about it! If you missed out, don’t worry. Keep following us, because I’m sure we’ll be bringing another murder mystery dinner theatre to Smokin Hot this winter!

Thursday — An Evening with David Bowie

And SOLD OUT AGAIN! 🤘 We’re thrilled with the response to our special tribute shows, and we’ll be bringing you more throughout the winter. Keep an eye on our page so you don’t miss out on the next one!

Friday — Soul, Groove & Good Vibes!

We’re open from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM, with the kitchen closing at 8 PM. Sean Cotton and mates will be entertaining us with a soulful evening of music featuring Marvin Gaye, Van Morrison, Kool & the Gang, and more! Joining them as a special guest is Chris Hess on saxophone.

Saturday — BBQ, Music & A Busy Crew!

We’re open noon to 9 PM, but our crew will be busy all over town! One of our catering teams will be firing up the smokers for a catered wedding, while another team heads to the Huntsville Legion to serve up some delicious BBQ for the Alice Cooper night happening there. Meanwhile, back at Smokin Hot, we’ll be serving up the real Texas-style BBQ ..

Lets finish the season with a musical celebration Noon to 3:00 Sean Cotton and the Mighty Lopez with the standup bass ooh,...performing what they will call Delta Blues and Bbq..
Then at 5:30 how about some foot tapping east coast music to celebrate with Charlie McKittrick and mates, ...
fiddle, bodhran , drums, ...oh what a time will be had..
Charlie starts at 530 on the Billy Mac Stage

Sunday — CLOSED.

And that’s what’s happening this week and weekend with the crew at Smokin Hot BBQ!

From the smoke to the music it’s been one heck of a season. We want to thank everyone who has come through our doors, supported our family business, enjoyed our food, and helped make this year so special. We couldn’t do it without you!

We’re taking a little breather after Saturday before gearing up for December and the winter season ahead. And if you thought we were slowing down, think again!

If we don’t see you this weekend, we hope to see you when we’re back in December!

Whats happening this weekend down at the Old Historic Train Station in Huntsville...

Well, the piano has been moved again for the umpteenth time it would seem, Gym membership ?. Heck no, I'll just continue to move the old piano every other day , ...
Now I think this old girl is in a space to stay, so I decorated the area to make it more comfortable..

This piano was my mom's, she had it on the farm when we were growing up, I still remember sitting in the living room listening to her play,..yeah life happens and it found its place at my brother's home, Garry was ( still is) an army officer , I think the piano did some travelling with him as well,..he asked me if I wanted it about almost 20 years ago now,..it spent some time in the living room for about another 7 years, then we moved to Toronto for a spell and it went into storage, ...yeah I'm not done yet .lol, .
Spent almost 10 years in storage then finally brought it out of storage when we moved into the train station, yeah, ...
Hands on my hips, nodding to myself , yeah looks pretty good right there...
So I look forward to the days when we will have someone playing the piano on a more regular basis , actually cant wait...

Ok,

Entertainment we have George Axon and the Mighty Lopez performing an acoustic duo , a little bit of bluegrass, a bit of h***y tonk and a whole lotta fun...they go on at 5:00

Saturday October 17th... Open at Noon to 9:00

As we recline in our chairs with full bellies from all that delicious turkey, stuffing and homemade apple pie… thinking, ā€œOh boy, I ate too much!ā€ and pondering why do I still follow the Dallas Cowboys,
I think ...

It’s probably time to start thinking about the schedule here at Smokin Hot BBQ as we move into winter.

Here’s what’s happening with the Moore Family over the next few weeks.

THIS WEEKEND & NEXT WEEKEND
We’ll be open Friday from 4:30–8 p.m. and Saturday from. noon–9 p.m.

Last Sunday was our final Sunday until next summer!

OUR LAST DAY BEFORE WINTER BREAK
Saturday, October 24th, will be our last day for about six weeks.

We’ll be taking that time to get ready for our winter transition and finally tackle a project we’ve been sitting on for a while… building a log cabin!

WE’LL BE BACK IN DECEMBER!
Starting in December, we’ll be open Saturdays only, from noon–9 p.m.

And yes… we’ll have live bands every Saturday night!

šŸŽ„ SAVE THE DATE — THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17TH!

We’ll be hosting a. Country Christmas Dinner & Show. at the old train station!

We’re still working with the band on the details and putting the finishing touches on the menu with our kitchen team. We’ll share more information as soon as everything is finalized.

If you’d like to reserve your seats, please email Andrea.

And there you have it! That’s the latest from our little corner of Muskoka, where we’re always cooking something, building something, or planning the next adventure.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us, joined us for a meal, enjoyed the music and made Smokin Hot BBQ part of your weekends.

We appreciate every one of you.

See you down at the old train station!

"My feet are killing meā€¦ā€
Just push on.

"Oh, my shoulders acheā€¦ā€
Just push on.

ā€œI’m hungry. Can we take a break?ā€
Just keep going.

That was me yesterday, talking to myself… šŸ˜‚

Yesterday, down at the Old Train Station, was one of those gorgeous fall days. The colours, the sunshine, the warm breeze… a perfect fall day, I thought.

All four smokers were going, the fires were burning, and we were cooking up a storm.

I think we cooked almost 30 whole briskets, over 140 racks of ribs, nearly 200 lbs of pork shoulder , and I don't even know how many chicken quarters and sausages!

Yeah… it was a busy, beautiful fall day!

Finally, after the smoke had settled a little, I asked Andrea to add a pulled pork sandwich to the end of the queue for me.

I walked inside, said hello to a few folks, and sat down at the bar.

Jay was wiping down the bar as we made a little small talk. I took a bite of my pulled pork sandwich.

Hmm… thought. That's a pretty good sandwich! šŸ˜‚

Jay handed me a few napkins.

ā€œThanks, Jay!ā€

And in that moment, I thought about what a great bartender he is. Cleaning, chatting, laughing, and noticing that I clearly needed a napkin!

It's those little things. Going that extra mile without even thinking about it.

And that got me thinking about everyone here.

Yeah… what a team. ā¤ļø

Spencer, Marci, Cathy, Brian, Rod, Jen, Andrew, Kylie, Jay, Iryna, Christine , Mike, Michael, Andrea, Merrissa, Julie… and everyone who works behind the scenes to make it all happen.

What a group of people.

Running a smokehouse isn't always easy. There are long days, sore feet, aching shoulders, hot fires, and a whole lot of hard work. But when you look around and see people working together, laughing, helping each other, and taking pride in what they do… you realize how lucky you are.

So, to our incredible team, our extended family on all our catering crews, our food suppliers, and everyone who helps us do what we do…

THANK YOU.

And to all of you who have visited our family BBQ, shared a meal with us, listened to some live music, or simply stopped by to say hello…

Thank you for being part of our story.

From our family to yours, have an amazing Thanksgiving. Enjoy the food, hug your family, laugh with your friends, and take a moment to appreciate the little things.

Because sometimes, it's a beautiful fall day, a pretty darn good pulled pork sandwich, and someone handing you a napkin that reminds you just how lucky you really are.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

**A LITTLE BIT OF LIVERPOOL, A LOT OF LOVE, AND ONE HECK OF A BEATLES NIGHT!**

Smokin Hot tribute shows continue to amaze us, and last night was no exception!

**Abbey Road — The Beatles!**

ā€œAbsolutely brilliant!ā€ said Phil, visiting from the UK with his wife and daughter Lauren.

ā€œWe’re actually from Liverpool,ā€ they told us before the show.

šŸ˜‚ No pressure, then!
No pressure indeed....

Sean Cotton and his bandmates delivered songs from two incredible Beatles albums to a **SOLD-OUT, FULL-CAPACITY CROWD!**

And the birthdays!

Happy Birthday to Leslie, who celebrated with balloons, cake and Smokin Hot BBQ. Then we discovered it was Phil’s wife’s birthday too!

Leslie brought her balloons over to their table and shared her birthday cake.

Two families who had never met, sharing cake, laughter and The Beatles.

**That's what community is all about.** ā¤ļø

I asked Phil how they found us. His daughter Lauren had researched live music venues in Muskoka while planning their Canadian holiday. She discovered our unique BBQ menu and live music program, sent us an email back in July, and here they were!

Last night was their final night in Canada, and they chose to spend it with us.

They told me how kind everyone had been.

ā€œYeah,ā€ I said. ā€œThey are. We are. We’re Canadian!ā€ šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

Looking around last night, I thought, this feels like a proper pub.

Smoked brisket, mashed potatoes and gravy. Great music. A packed room. People meeting people.

Proper BBQ. Proper music. A proper night out.

And speaking of our amazing community…

ā¤ļø **TODAY IS THE HUNTSVILLE HOSPITAL ANNUAL RADIOTHON!**

**50% OF ALL RIB SALES** to support our local hospital!

**TODAY'S HOURS & MENU**

**4:30–8:30 PM, OR UNTIL WE SELL OUT:** Full smoked BBQ menu.

**NO BURGERS TODAY!** Come on, folks, let's give those ribs a try!

Bring your family, bring your friends, enjoy some great BBQ and help us raise money for a cause that matters to all of us.

Let's sell those ribs and support our hospital! ā¤ļø

šŸ”„ SOME SMOKIN’ HOT APPRECIATION! šŸ–

A big thank you to Smokin' Hot BBQ for being such generous supporters of HfA!

As one of our Hospitality Sponsors, Smokin’ Hot BBQ helps us feed the artists who come to Huntsville to perform throughout the year.

And when Smokin’ Hot ribs show up backstage, nobody needs to be told twice that dinner has arrived! šŸ˜‹

The ribs always get rave reviews from our performers — and quite frankly, they smell so good that it can be a little hard for the rest of us to hand them over. šŸ˜‚

There’s a lot of care that goes into welcoming artists to Huntsville, and having local businesses like Smokin’ Hot BBQ generously help us feed them is such an important part of that.

A huge thank you to Larry, Andrea and the whole Smokin’ Hot BBQ team for the incredible food, the generosity and for taking such great care of HfA’s visiting artists! šŸ‘

What Makes a BBQ Joint a Destination?

There are BBQ joints and smokehouses all across North America. And yeah… there’s just something about great BBQ.

But I often wonder… where did it all begin?

Maybe millions of years ago, when our ancient ancestors first discovered that meat tasted pretty damn good when it was cooked over a big fire. Picture it… the hunter out in the wilderness, days, maybe weeks, following the herd, waiting for that big animal to finally come over the ridge. Then the hunt. Then the long journey home, dragging the prize back to the cave.

And then… fire.

A massive fire. Huge cuts of meat. Family and community gathered around it. Cooking. Eating. Sharing. Celebrating.

Sounds pretty familiar, doesn't it?

Move forward a few thousand years and you find the Vikings gathering in their great longhouses. Big fires. Massive cuts of meat. Food. Drink. Music. Stories. Dancing. A community coming together around the fire.

A wedding? Fire. A harvest? Fire. A victory? Fire. A reason to celebrate? Light the damn fire.

Maybe that's why BBQ has always felt like more than food.

It's a celebration.

And here we are, thousands of years later. All across North America, we've developed our own styles. Texas. Memphis. Kansas City. The Carolinas. And hundreds of variations in between.

Different woods. Different fires. Different smokers. Different cuts. Different techniques. And yes… different opinions about what makes great BBQ.

So what makes one BBQ joint better than the next?

Hmm…

Everything.

And what makes some BBQ joints stand apart from the rest?

Hmm…

Everything again.

Because I can cook a pretty damn good burger at home. I can throw a brisket on the smoker. I can light a fire. And chances are, it'll be pretty darn good.

So if I can do that at home… why would I drive somewhere else to buy it?

That's where the word destination comes in.

A destination has to give you something you can't get sitting at your own kitchen table. It has to engage all the senses.

Sight.

Something different. Something you don't see every day. Old wood. Fire. Smoke. Steel. Cowboy country. A great stage. A building with character. Something that makes you stop and look around.

Sound.

The crackle of the fire. The conversations. The laughter. The crowd. And then… the music.

Smell.

Ahhh… now we're getting somewhere.

That incredible aroma of wood smoke. Charcoal. Meat cooking slowly over real fire. Fat hitting the fire below. Smoke rolling through the meat.

You smell it before you ever see it.

Taste.

And then comes the best part.

That unmistakable taste of meat cooked over fire. Smoke. Char. Juice. Bark. The meat.

Primitive cooking.

The way humans have been doing it for thousands of years.

And honestly?

Forget the sauce.

Sauce has its place. But great BBQ shouldn't need to hide behind it.

At Smokin Hot BBQ, we can cook a damn good brisket. We can smoke it for hours. We can build the fire. We can tend the pit. We can get the bark right. We can get the smoke right. We can serve you a pretty incredible piece of BBQ.

But here's the thing…

People aren't standing in line for BBQ.

They're standing in line because they want to experience something.

They want to smell the smoke. Hear the music. Watch the fire. See the pit. Talk to the people beside them. Eat with their family. Have a b**r. Take a picture. Listen to a band.

And for a little while…

be part of something.

That's what a BBQ joint should be.

Not just a place to eat.

A place to gather.

A place to celebrate.

A place to remember.

šŸ”„ That's BBQ.

And maybe… that's why after thousands of years…

we're still gathering around the fire.
