We are heartbroken to share that Peter Mercanti, founder of Carmen’s Group, has passed away at the age of 77.

Under Peter’s leadership along with his sons PJ and Joe, Carmen’s Group has grown into the community pillar it is today.

Peter is an integral part in our company’s story. He was always proud of the work Carmen’s did for the City of Hamilton and he will be greatly missed by everyone.

4 years of caring for the places we call home 🌎💚

This Earth Day, our team spent the afternoon at Lakeview doing our part to keep our community clean. It is a simple tradition that reflects something we truly believe in at Carmens Group, showing up for our environment and for each other.

Our CEO PJ Mercanti missed the photo as he leaned into the spirit of earth day and returned with two full bags of garbage and even a cooler. See the video to catch the moment.

Join us in making an impact. Grab a bag, head outside, and help keep your community beautiful.

Congratulations to our CEO PJ Mercanti and the entire HUPEG team, alongside Oak View Group, on being recognized as Tourism Champion of the Year at the Ontario Business Achievement Awards, hosted by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.

This recognition highlights the incredible work behind bringing TD Coliseum to life, a milestone investment that continues to shape Hamilton’s visitor economy and revitalize our downtown.

A well-deserved honour for visionary leadership and lasting community impact.

This Sunday, our CEO PJ Mercanti is taking on the 30km Around the Bay Road Race, turning a personal goal into something much bigger.

Alongside family, friends and colleagues, PJ is helping raise $100,000 in support of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation, a place that has cared for generations in our community, including PJ himself.

We are proud to stand behind this incredible effort and the impact it will have on patient care, research, and vital equipment needs at St. Joe’s.

We are proud to share this important community story.

2026 marks the 132nd running of the Around the Bay Road Race and the 22nd year St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation has served as the official charity partner of this iconic Hamilton event. Over that time, nearly $6 million has been raised to support patient care, research, mental health initiatives, robotic surgery, and essential medical equipment at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

This year, funds raised through the Bay Race will support the purchase of much-needed medical equipment. While hospitals receive operational funding from the province, investments in new technology and the replacement of aging equipment rely almost entirely on donations and community-supported events like the Bay Race.

We are especially proud to share that PJ Mercanti, CEO of Carmens Group, has been named the 2026 Community Champion for St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton

A lifelong Hamiltonian, PJ was born at St. Joseph’s and has recently joined the Foundation’s Board of Directors. He is currently training to run the full 30K Around the Bay route and is aiming to raise $100,000 in support of Hamilton’s hospital.

Watch PJ’s interview with CHCH News this week to hear more about why this cause matters to him and what motivates him to take on this role: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RxoczX60qI

PJ will be supported by family, friends, and the Carmens Group team, alongside hundreds of hospital staff and corporate teams from across our city.

The Bay Race truly is Hamilton’s Race for Hamilton’s Hospital, and we are honoured to support its continued legacy.
