Love our teas? Us too! We’re proud to carry blends from , located right around the corner from us on Argyle Street. They have dozens of teas to choose from, and they even travel to grow their own teas around the world for proprietary blends. It’s a very special shop, and is currently in a construction zone and could use our community’s support. Check them out in store or shop on their site.

As part of Halifax Ocean Week, we were proud to be the first to showcase Nat Shaw’s series, ‘And To Her We Shall Return’.

This series of five photographs reflects on the cyclical nature of life and the idea of returning to one’s origins. Captured on film, the prints were soaked in water, allowing parts of each image to dissolve—the photographs themselves partially returning to water.

It’s Open City today, one of our favourite days of the year! For the third year, we’re featuring Pasteis de Nata, aka Portuguese Custard Tarts. We make hundreds of them from scratch, so it’s one day only!

We’re here until 2pm. If they sell out or you miss them (or just love them so much you dream about them), check out .bites2025 in the Brewery Market, making them weekly!

Enjoy a stroll around all the spots participating in on this beautiful day!

Today is World Wildlife Day, which feels like the perfect time to share a story from one of Nova Scotia’s most extraordinary places — and one of our most challenging catering jobs.

Sable Island sits 300 km off the coast of Nova Scotia (and yes, somehow it’s still in the same voting district as Halifax!). Fewer than 500 people visit each year. There’s no dock. No public airstrip. Just wild horses, the world’s largest grey seal breeding colony, and hundreds of shipwrecks scattered along its shores.

Earlier this year, a wildlife film crew spent two weeks on the island documenting one of Canada’s most impressive wildlife gatherings. Bird’s Nest Café & Catering had the honour of feeding them for the entire shoot — every meal, every day.

Getting food to one of Canada’s most remote places isn’t exactly a downtown lunch run. It took serious planning, careful preparation, and zero room for error. Everything had to meet strict weight requirements for the helicopter ride in.

Halifax documentary director .john.clark was calling the shots:

“It was cold and brutally windy — the kind of weather that seeps into your bones. My crew needed healthy, hearty food — with long days ahead we need it prepped and ready to go. Bird’s Nest fed our souls on this trip, and that makes all the difference. The crew became especially attached to the handmade granola bars — we renamed them ‘Sable Bars.’ I crave them daily.”
