⚠️Road impacts for the neighbourhood this week:

Greetings again on this dismal Tuesday.

It’s a sad state of affairs that a stressed out, neurodivergent, entrepreneur (on her only “day off”) has to be the one on the phone and sending emails all day to get the info to make this crude sketch herself, but here we are.

Special shout out to our neighbour Alicia who sent me the Fairview community Facebook post this morning. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have even known about it. Thank you Alicia!

After some very confusing conversations, this is what I believe is happening for the next few days as a result of the crane repairs across the street from us. These changes are in addition to the construction project that is ongoing.

🛑There will be no road access at all between Main Avenue and Supreme Court via Titus Street.

🚷It was unclear if there would be any sidewalk access for that section of the street.

🚦Traffic will detour down Main Avenue and turn right onto Mcfatridge Road to access one direction only traffic onto Dutch Village Road.

🚙Alternatively, you can continue on Main Avenue until you reach the ramp to access Joseph Howe Drive

🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️All sidewalks around the corner with the diner will remain open (again to the best of my cobbled conversations and emails).

🚛 Bi-directional traffic will be maintained outside of the red and green shaded areas as usual.

I hope this helps. It’s been a really hard day with other problems on top of this one (if you can believe that).

See you all tomorrow 11am - 8pm.

Greetings folks

This is all the information we have at this time.

We learned of this today and are understandably scrambling to get more details.

Since Dutch Village Road wraps around our entire corner and Deal Street is accessed from both sides, it is unclear of the impact this closure will have. In addition to the unknown timeline for completion of the work itself.

It is also unclear which sidewalks will be affected.

Since access points are vital to know for our own use, staff access, customers, as well as deliveries from our suppliers, we are desperately seeking this information.

There is a grave likelihood our hours of operation will be impacted this week.

I will update as soon as we learn more.

Pray for me if you are the praying type.

Being crushed under the weight of forces beyond my control,
-Kelly-Jo

Finally got around to hanging our shiny new hardware from The Coast - Halifax/Kjipuktuk

Thanks again to all who voted.

It’s not why we’re in the game but it is really nice to be recognized for our hard work.

Love you Nova Scotia (and all our traveling customers from other parts of the world)!

Cheers 🥂 🍻

June 11, 2026

Today marks 5 years since we opened our doors for the first time.

While we would love to announce a special event for our customers, our staff, and ourselves, the last 3 weeks have been pretty all consuming.

While there isn’t much pomp or circumstance, we would be remiss if we did not at least acknowledge the day. Thankfully, we had some visitors stop by to remind us of this occasion.

We had a lovely lunch conversation with our local MLA Lina Hamid and small business champion Krista Gallagher (MLA Halifax-Chebucto).

Upon hearing our latest struggles the last few weeks, they decided to show their support and come in to have lunch. We got to take a rare moment and talk about all things small business. We had a great conversation about our wonderful city and all who live here.

You all really showed up for our business (and our family) last week. For that, Lalanya and I must give our thanks. It’s not the first time all of our amazing customers have come out to support us with their patronage when we needed it most. Halifax is not where I’m from but I’m proud to say it is the place I’ve chosen to make my home.

So, here’s to the last 5 years…and let us toast to the future. May it be less character developing and more plot movement in nature 😜.

Cheers 🥂

Happy Friday,

So, good news/bad news time:

Our neighbourhood is open however, with power issues overnight we had to convince the folks on site to let us in the building to reset our fridge. Good news, I purchased thermostats that alarm my phone when our temperature gets too high.

We were able to get onsite at 1am and reset our breaker and did not lose any product.

However, we got here at 8:30 this morning and there was a gas leak from our propane tanks.

Thankfully, we have a technician on site doing the repair this morning but we do not know when we will be ready to roll for the day.

Stay tuned, we are hoping to open this afternoon but time is TBD.

I gave an interview last week to Erin MacInnis with CBC Radio about the impacts the construction is having on local business.

For those in government at any level I have some ideas for solutions and would welcome a follow up conversation.

Since I’m home with no restaurant to run again this evening thought it might make a good time to share.

Thanks Erin for the opportunity!

Well this is the week that keeps on giving.

There is a crane issue across the street and the police and fire crews on scene are shutting down Dutch village from our corner to Joseph Howe Drive.

We have been ordered to evacuate.
Please avoid the area if you can.

I will keep you all posted on when we will be open again (praying it is soon, losing 2 days this week is already a nightmare).

Stay safe,
-KJ

Our next Paint night with is only 1 week away on June 11 from 6-8pm.

As of today, we have 9 seats remaining for this month’s theme “Magnolias”.

🎨 The workshop is beginner friendly and casual.
🍔 Your entry also comes with a value priced menu on some of our most popular items.
☕️ Tea and coffee are included (we have decaf for both so the jitters won’t mess with your brush strokes).

Join us for a fun Thursday evening of watercolors, great company, excellent snacks, and the best art teacher around (in our humble opinion at least).

See our ordering link in our bio, or hit up our website at www.easystreetdiner.ca. Ordering Link is at the top of our website and then you are looking for “Events” to find your tickets.

Unfortunately the diner is closed for the day.

So sorry to all the great Wednesday guests who had plans to visit us or grab some take out today.

We have a few cases of the dreaded spring cold/flu. Therefore, we are too few in numbers to have regular services today for lunch and dinner time.

We should be back to fighting shape for tomorrow.

Thank you all for your understanding and your continued support of our small business.

Take care.
