After 3-5 years of growth, the tree starts flowering. The flower eventually transforms into fruit, the coffee cherry. When ripe the cherry turns deep red. Usually there is one main harvest per year but in some regions, two harvests are possible. Most of the coffee cherries are picked by hand as the terrain is usually to steep for automation. Itโ€™s a labour intensive work. Two methods are used for harvesting the cherries. Selectively picked: The pickers rotate over a 7-10 day rotation to hand pick only ripe cherries. Strip picked: All cherries are stripped of the branch at the same time being sorted later. An experienced picker average between 150-180 pounds of cherries per day, resulting in about 30 - 36 pounds of coffee beans. The cherries are then immediately transported to a processing facility.

As we continue to build awareness about people in Uganda through Conz Coffee we want to keep it personal. Yet, in order to create the volume we need to make the business viable and be able to offer jobs in Uganda, we need to incorporate tools and systems that are not all that personal... As you probably can tell we are just finding our way on Social Media, learning as we go. Our posts are not all that polished and professional but we hope that is a sign of our personality! Cutting through the noise of a competitive market is hard to do, (something coffee farmers have known for a long time). As we learn to speak up for them, would you lend your voice and speak up for us? In order to keep it personal and yet reach a big enough market, we need you, and your unique personality to help us out!
