Victor Barrera// We’re in Colombia right now on our origin trip, and just a few days ago we visited Víctor Barrera at his farm. His coffee is in all our shops and online right now 💫☕️

We walked onto Víctor Barrera’s farm in El Sinaí, Palestina, and before we even saw a coffee tree we were picking fruit right off the trees. Granadilla, guava, a strange fuzzy fleshed fruit none of us could name, fresh cardamom, cacao pods hanging heavy on the branch. His six hectares are bursting with life, tropical fruit growing right alongside the coffee that built this farm for his family.

Víctor met us at the bottom of the road on his scooter and walked us up himself. We tasted cherries straight off the branch, sweet and ready, then he brought us to his wet mill to see his fermentation process in action. This is where his signature accumulated batch method happens, cherries collected daily and left to ferment together before washing, building the dense body and stone fruit sweetness his coffee is known for.

We ended the visit at his home, where his wife and daughter made us coffee with panela, hot chocolate, and warm cheese buns. Simple, generous, unforgettable hospitality 🤎☕️

New on our shelves: Alirio Aguilera’s coffee☕️🇨🇴

We’re currently in Colombia on our origin trip, and a few days ago we had the honour of visiting Alirio’s farm, Finca San Isidro, in Palestina, Huila. He and his wife welcomed us with a full tour and were some of the most gracious hosts we could ask for.

Alirio is a 2013 Cup of Excellence winner, the most prestigious accolade a coffee producer can receive, and it shows in everything he does. His farm sits at 1,600 masl in the Guachicos River Basin, where he grows Colombia, Caturra, Castillo, and Pink Bourbon. His “Precision Natural” process is truly his own: cherries are hand-selected at peak ripeness, oxidized for 24 hours to build complexity, then moved straight to mechanical dryers for a clean, controlled finish. The result is a cup with strawberry, rhubarb, and hazelnut, layered, precise, and unforgettable.

During harvest, the farm supports 13 workers, and Alirio’s wife cooks breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the whole crew. It’s a family operation built on decades of hard work and heart.

This coffee just landed on our shelves and online, in shop and at thecolombian.ca. We’re so proud to bring it home, and this is just the beginning of our relationship with Alirio, more of his coffee to come. 🌱

Our biggest team yet just landed in Colombia! ✈️🇨🇴

This is our crew for the next 10 days on our origin trip, the largest group we’ve ever brought with us.

Being the bridge to Colombian specialty coffee isn’t just something we say. It’s who we are. As a Colombian owned coffee business, our coffee comes from our family to yours, and bringing our team here means they get to feel that connection firsthand: the farms, the producers, the hands behind every cup we serve back home.

This is also a buying trip. We’re visiting farms, cupping and selecting lots to fill our container headed to Edmonton next month.

Day one, we hit the ground running. A traditional Colombian lunch, then straight to Sensory Coffee Colombia to cup with our friend Gustavo and start selecting lots. While we were there, two producers we work with were unexpectedly there! Jaime Nuñez was having a coffee, and Jhoan Vergara surprised us with a visit.

10 days, one incredible team, and a whole lot of coffee still to taste. Follow along. 🌱☕️

Meet the crew: Jayson, our coffee sourcing director in country, Felipe, Santiago’s uncle who owns our family farm, Kat and Lola, our store managers, Kean, our production lead, Angie in finance, Kristen, our operations manager, and our co-founders, Santiago and Kristin.
