Last night we got the unfortunate news about one of the owners of Gravy Burgers and Fries, the former Local Omnivore
On Tuesday, August 13th, Ryan Brodziak was on one of his regular walks (his favourite part of his day) through his quiet Sherwood Park neighborhood with his 11-month-old son Ozzy strapped to his chest and his puppy Gouda on leash. In a sudden and tragic moment, an out-of-control vehicle sped onto the sidewalk, striking Ryan, Ozzy, and Gouda simultaneously.
Ryan and Ozzy were rushed to the emergency room and quickly transferred to the ICU with severe injuries. Gouda was also taken to the emergency vet for care.
Ryan has suffered a significant spinal cord injury, resulting in multiple fractures to his spine. As of now, he remains paralyzed and is awaiting emergency surgery. Ozzy sustained a skull fracture and a fractured left arm and is currently under close observation in the Stollery.
Ryan’s surgery will involve removing bone from his back to relieve swelling and placing metal rods and screws in an attempt to stabilize his spine. It is uncertain if Ryan will regain mobility. Meanwhile, Ozzy continues to be monitored at the Stollery and is in stable condition.
We are grateful to share that Gouda has been released from the emergency vet and is now in the care of family.
There is a gofundme for people to support their family through this hard time. We aren’t asking for anything but a share goes a long way.
Wishing you the best Ryan. We love you
