How Freed Souls Coffee started 💕

☕️A little background about me and my coffee obsession. I have always been SO obsessed with coffee for almost my entire life. I started sneaking off and drinking instant coffee whenever I would go over to a friend’s house in grade 6. After that I always had to start my day with some sort of coffee. I never really thought anything more about coffee until 2019.

☕️In 2019 before the pandemic hit, my mom and I decided to go on a two week getaway trip to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. Now I won’t lie when I’m on vacation I’m the type of person that likes to try and schedule/see everything one can possibly see everyday. So being a massive coffee fan when I saw the opportunity arise to go check out a coffee farm in San Sebastián I immediately signed us up for it. The 1 hour bus ride to San Sebastian felt a little sketchy at first but once you arrive and you see the town in person it’s so breathtaking behind words. Seeing the full process for the first time of how coffee beans are grown/harvested/roasted had me mesmerized to the point thats all I could think about for months after the trip upon returning home. It wasn’t until that moment that I realized there is so much more to coffee than just instant coffee. Specialty coffee is a whole other world.

☕️Once we were back home I immediately started looking into and researching everything I could about how to start a coffee company, I just knew this is what I was meant to do and I knew there was no better person to start a business with then my mom.

☕️Flash forward to now in 2024, we are in our third year being in business. This is our first year running Freed Souls Coffee full time which is truthfully both exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. We have learnt SO much about not only the coffee industry but about what it’s like to run a business and what it really takes. I like to call Freed Souls Coffee my baby because it’s truly such a life passion of mine. I have big dreams of where I want to take this business that I can’t wait to share with everyone! We are working hard behind the scenes and I’m hoping soon to have some sort of spot where we can serve our coffee ☕️

SAVE THE DATE: On March 9th Mill Creek Colliery Brass Band will be having their next concert "Say Her Name" which will be celebrating Women in music 👏

We are so excited to have our coffee served at the concession table during intermission ☕

Caitlin and Dorrainne Sculac ☕☕

These two are the amazing mother-daughter duo behind Edmonton's own Freed Souls Coffee. Their journey took flight in 2021 from a place of profound loss, as they grappled with the loss of a cherished daughter and sister.
Seeking solace, they embarked on a transformative mother-daughter retreat to a serene Mexican town. It was there they were irrevocably captivated by a coffee farm, and decided to start their own coffee company.
In a couple short years they have grown to be one of Edmonton's better known coffee roasters and can be found across much of Alberta.
