We are OPEN tomorrow and once again raising funds for our Bigfoot Bursary; which is made available annually to a First Nation, Inuit, or Métis student at our local North Island College 🧡🧡🧡 Tomorrow is an important reminder to us all to acknowledge our shared history and work together towards a stronger future for us all. Take part in the spirit walk downtown to learn and engage with the purpose of the day. And perhaps swing by for a donut.
We created our “Bigfoot Bursary” on the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as but a small step in our Reconciliation in Action effort and in reference to one of the Calls to Action, Education, as outlined in the Truth and Reconciliation Report. Education has played an integral role in my life and certainly helped forge the path to where I am now. Before opening up Bigfoot, I completed concurrent Bachelor Degrees in First Nations Studies and Finance and worked in First Nations Economic Development. Education and economic self determination for Indigenous communities and individuals is a great passion of mine, as much as donuts are 😉, and I see it as our strongest way forward! It’s my greatest hope that my business inspires other Indigenous peoples to pursue their own entrepreneurial dreams. And I am most definitely here to assist anyone looking to do this!
Please join us tomorrow to help lift another Indigenous person in their educational pursuits with our “Bigfoot Bursary” special: orange vanilla dip with our housemade sugar cookie. Available at both our 5th street and The Coffee Cabin by Bigfoot Donuts locations tomorrow at open, with all proceeds going towards our bursary. (Only a limited amount will be at the Cabin!)
I raise my hands in gratitude to the many elders, knowledge keepers, educators, and communities that have helped guide my own journey of reconciliation and self determination as a Cree on the coast. I raise my hands to each of you who has supported my Indigenous owned business. And I raise my hands to the keepers of this land that I’ve called home my whole life 🧡 the Pentlatch, E’iksan, Sahtloot, Sasitla, and K’ómoks Peoples 🙌 Thank you, Gilakas’la, Hiy Hiy!
