WHY EVERY MOUNTAIN BIKER SHOULD OWN A HARDTAIL.

It’s easy to get distracted by the latest high-tech full-suspension bikes, but don’t write off the humble hardtail. Keeping one in your regular rotation will transform your riding:

Here’s why:

Skill Progression: A hardtail forces you to pick better lines and refine your technique, making you a smoother, more precise rider.

Trail Feedback: You get a pure, unfiltered connection to the trail; almost feeling closer to nature.

Pure Nostalgia & Joy: If your first mountain bike as a kid was a hardtail, riding one brings back that original sense of raw fun, youthfulness and excitement.

Unmatched Efficiency: On the right terrain, nothing beats a hardtail for pure speed and responsiveness.

Do yourself a favor: get a hardtail! You don’t need a $9,000 carbon race rocket (though they are incredible). A reliable bike with solid components around the $3,000 mark will do the job perfectly. Mix it into your regular riding schedule a couple of times a month, focus on a specific skill each time, and watch your riding transform. I guarantee you won’t regret it—and you’ll end the season a stronger, more capable biker.

This is not professional advice, just the perspective of an avid rider of 30+ years, former racer, veteran mechanic, bike shop owner, and amateur team manager.
