Dear🌸 Sakura friends and customers,
It feels like summer went by so quickly this year! We hope you were able to enjoy it and make lots of happy memories with the people you love. ❤️

Thanks to all of your kindness, support, and understanding, we made it through another busy summer at Sakura, and now we’re getting ready to welcome a new season.
After working so hard all summer, it’s time for our wonderful staff to enjoy a well-deserved break — and we’ve decided to take a little time off as well to visit our families back home.
We had originally planned to stay in Canada this year since we went to Korea last year. But with our parents getting older, we decided it was important to make the trip home and spend some precious time with our families.
And after our unexpectedly extended trip last year... 😵we’ll be extra careful and hope to return safe and sound this time! 😊

🌸Sakura will be CLOSED
Sunday, October 4 – Monday, October 19
We will REOPEN
Tuesday, October 20

If you have friends or family who visit Sakura, we would really appreciate it if you could help us spread the word. We truly don’t want anyone making a trip to 🌸Sakura during our vacation only to find us closed!
Our vacation also happens to fall over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, so we’d like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving in advance. 🍁🦃

And most of all, thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who continues to love Sakura, support us, encourage us, and show us so much kindness.
We are always grateful for you. ❤️
We’ll enjoy some precious time with our families, get some rest, and come back refreshed and ready to see all of you again!

Hello 🌸Sakura's precious customers, friends, and neighbors,

This is Kelvin, the chef at Sakura and Jennifer’s husband.

It’s hard to believe that it has already been 9 years since we first opened our doors here in Cobourg.

Over the years, we’ve watched sweet little children who used to walk in holding their mothers' hands grow up to be taller than Jennifer, greeting us with bright smiles. ☺️

Looking back, these years have been filled with so much warmth—you have become far more than customers to us; you are dear neighbors and like family.

Today, for the first time in 3 years,
I am writing to share something with a heavy heart.

As many of you know, the ongoing global economic slowdown and inflation have brought significant challenges to small businesses everywhere. Thanks to your unwavering love and support, we have been able to keep going with deep gratitude every single day. We can never thank you enough for that.

To be honest, the cost of ingredients and supplies from our distributors has been rising continuously for a long time. Even so, whenever I brought up the idea of adjusting our prices, Jennifer firmly insisted, "Our customers are going through a tough time too. Let’s hold out a little longer." And so, for the past 3 years, we did everything we could to absorb the rising costs and keep our prices unchanged.

However, with ongoing cost increases, it has now reached a point where covering our basic inventory costs has become increasingly difficult.
Despite pouring our hearts into every meal, maintaining our restaurant stably has turned into a daily struggle. We realized that if things continue like this, we may no longer be able to offer you the warm meals and welcoming space we so love providing.

With a deeply regretful heart, we have made the difficult decision to adjust our menu prices for the first time in 3 years.

If our restaurant were just a place where strangers passed through, we might have simply updated the menu boards without a word. But to us, every single one of you is a cherished neighbor and friend. We felt it was only right to share our situation openly and ask for your kind understanding.

The adjusted prices will take effect on August 5th.

It truly breaks our hearts to bring you news like this during challenging times, and we are deeply sorry. To honor the trust and love you have shown us over the years, we promise to continue pouring our hearts into every dish and serving you with the utmost warmth and quality.

Hello our precious customers and friends,🤗🩷

With bright blue skies above us, warm sunshine on our faces, green leaves shining in the sunlight, and colourful flowers blooming everywhere, it truly feels like one of the most beautiful times of the year has arrived.

Today, we would like to share an important update with you.

Recently, one of our kitchen chefs unexpectedly left our team, and we have been having difficulty finding a suitable replacement.😟🥺
Because of the unique nature of our menu, we require kitchen staff with experience and understanding of both Korean and Japanese cuisine. Recent changes to Canadian immigration policies, combined with an ongoing shortage of experienced chefs, have made hiring qualified staff much more challenging than in the past.

Many experienced chefs are concentrated in larger cities, making recruitment especially difficult for small communities like Cobourg.

Our 🌸Sakura family continues to do our very best as always, but
during busy periods, orders often arrive all at once, resulting in longer wait times than we would like. Seeing our customers spend their VALUABLE TIME WAITING FOR FOOD has become one of OUR BIGGEST CONCERNS.

After much thought and discussion, we have decided that, for the time being, DINE-IN service during our BUSIEST WEEKEND DINNER HOURS will be available by RESERVATION ONLY. Unfortunately, we may also be LIMITED in our ability to accommodate LARGER GROUPS. So sorry for this.

This decision is about ensuring that every customer receives the quality of food and level of service they deserve, while minimizing unnecessary wait times.

We truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support as we work through this challenge. Our goal has always been, and will continue to be, providing the best possible experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

We have a quick ANNOUNCEMENT from🌸 Sakura.

Next Wednesday, April 22,
🌸Sakura will be closed for one day.
I (Jennifer) have a scheduled eye procedure,
so we will need to take the DAY OFF.

I originally tried to book it on our regular day off (Monday),
but unfortunately there were no available appointments on that day,
so it had to be scheduled for Wednesday.

Since the exact surgery time is only confirmed one week in advance,
Kelvin and I did consider opening later in the day depending on the timing.
However, I will need to take the full day to rest,
so we will be closed for the entire day.

We sincerely apologize for the short notice
and truly appreciate your understanding 🙇‍♀️

Please don’t worry—there’s nothing serious with my eyes 😉
I’ll take good care of myself and come back
with even healthier eyes to see you all again!😍

Every year, winter🥶 comes around again,
but somehow it always feels just as long as the very first one… doesn’t it?
We can’t wait for the warm spring to arrive.🌷🌱

Today, we’d like to share a little update from 🌸Sakura!

✌️✌️We started with🍣 Uber Eats last December,
and as of last week, we’re now also on 🍣SkipTheDishes.✌️✌️

Spending our days at 🌸Sakura,
seeing you in person and exchanging greetings
is truly something we love and cherish.
But we also understand—there are days when it’s just too cold,
too inconvenient, or you simply don’t feel like going out…
and when you're craving something delicious, it’s hard to resist, right? 😊
We totally get it—really! 😄
So on those days, please feel free to enjoy Sakura from the comfort of your home through Uber Eats or SkipTheDishes anytime.
