I tried many times over the week to write my update posts and I had to keep abandoning them.
They say “Be careful what you wish for.”
I’ve often been frustrated by my husband’s good intentions, promises, and lack of follow through. I have said more than once over the last year, “I should just stop asking you to help me and do it myself. I used to be very independent before I met you.”
Well now that Anthony is injured, I’m doing a lot of things myself that I would normally rely on him to help me with. It is a double-edged sword. It is satisfying in a way, but I’m so tired. Respect goes out to all of those independent people who somehow hold everything together.
But you know, even little simple things… I mowed the grass with a push mower for the first time in my life! We always used a riding mower when I was young, so I never bothered to learn how to use it. I was pretty proud of myself! 😅
The New Liskeard Fall Fair is always a highlight and we made it down during the day to watch our girls show some animals in the ring.
Poor Anthony can’t drive right now and had his name called at the attendance draw but I had dropped him off at home, so he didn’t qualify!
Anthony had his checkup yesterday and everything looks to be healing well. He can move all of his fingers and he has most of his sensation back, apart from some numbness on the forearm which they said normally takes a little longer for the feeling to come back to. He has another new cast to get used to now.
Last Thursday was pretty brutal for business because everyone was at the fair; that was until the end of the night when I had a great group of guys who stopped by for the first time after supposedly passing by for 18 years on their way to their cottage! They left me a 100% tip, so obviously that made my whole day and definitely glad that I opened, even though I knew it would be slow.
You could tell that I had no locals for dinner on Saturday because I sold out of chili and didn’t sell a single order of fried rice & chicken wings! My sisters ate those up though, and sang me praises which is even more meaningful when I know they’ve had my dad’s to compare to!
I met a few contractors who came in separately but seemed to be working on the same job; turns out I work there on Mondays too! 😂 Six degrees of separation!
Karaoke last week was like…. AMAZING!!!!! Apparently it was talent night, unbeknownst to me. Some of the newbies were intimidated and wouldn’t sing after hearing how good everybody was.
This one guy sang an 80’s song and my sister and I looked at eachother like, “collaboration opportunity!!!” 👀
He kindly sang a few songs with us; as well as having our “karaoke sister” in attendance, so we had so much fun.
Karaoke is happening again tonight and I am hoping for more great vibes. We MUST do a karaoke battle of “Land Down Under” because DJ is hosting her last Karaoke tonight before she goes off to OZ to visit our sister & her family.
The Deep Water Project will be performing at the Classic Theatre Cobalt tonight and tomorrow. You should try to make it because they have put so much heart & soul into this, and they are raising money for The Coffee House New Liskeard to help in developing local musicians. This is an original production, written and performed by local musicians; telling the story of our region. Don’t miss it! More has been added since its debut, so even if you caught the last performance there is still more to see.
Come to the Cobalt Miner’s Tavern and visit with the performers at the afterparty following the show.
