Tomorrow at The Corner Studio Café 🤍☕️

We’re serving homemade Balkan Buhtle — a soft, fluffy Balkan sweet buns filled with cozy goodness and made fresh by your local café.

Our available Buhtle fillings:
🍓 Strawberry Rhubarb
🍫 Nutella
🌹 Traditional Balkan Rosehip

And of course, we’ll also have our chocolate chip cookies and yummy coffee drinks all day to pair with them — like our lattes, cappuccinos, americanos, iced drinks, chai, hot chocolate, and all your café favourites.

After last weekend, we’re choosing to turn the page with something sweet, homemade, and proudly shared from our culture to our community.

We’re so grateful for everyone who continues to show up for small local businesses — especially the ones rooted right here at Neustadt.

We’re Open tomorrow 10:00am–5:30pm.

This Saturday, June 20th, I’m bringing homemade Croatian/Bosnian-style buhtle back to The Corner— Buhtle are soft, fluffy sweet rolls filled with Nutella, strawberry rhubarb jam, or traditional rosehip jam.

A big batch, made with love, hope, gratitude and unity ☕️

I wasn’t sure whether to share this, but my heart feels heavy and I think it matters.

Today, someone came into our café and made comments saying that we need to make “Canadian food,” not Balkan food, because we are in Canada — and that “we don’t need your kind here.”

Those words were incredibly hurtful.

I am deeply grateful to live in Canada. My family was given the chance to build a safer life here, and that is something I have never taken for granted. Canada became home to us.

A big part of why I felt comfortable introducing pieces of my culture into this community was because I believed that is something Canada celebrates — diversity, acceptance, and people from different backgrounds coming together as one.

As many of you know, I am also a nurse. I chose that path because I wanted to care for people and serve the country that gave my family safety and opportunity. So to be looked down on, belittled, and spoken to that way in my own café was devastating.

The Corner Studio Café was built with love, hard work, and community in mind. We are proud to be Canadian, and we are also proud of our Balkan roots. Sharing our food and culture is not something we should ever feel ashamed of.

So I want to be very clear: bullying, racism, cultural discrimination, and hateful comments are not welcome here.

Our café will always be a place for kindness, respect, good coffee, and community.

To anyone who has ever been made to feel small, out of place, or like they don’t belong — you belong here.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support us, uplift us, and remind us that there is far more kindness in this community than hate. 🤎
