💛 Remembering John Kwok Leung Lau, The Heart and Chef Behind Calgary’s Golden Inn 💛
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John Lau, beloved founder and head chef of Calgary’s iconic Golden Inn Restaurant.
Since opening its doors in 1977, Golden Inn became more than a late-night Chinatown staple, it was a gathering place filled with good food, laughter, and community.
John’s passion for cooking and his warm hospitality touched generations of Calgarians. Though the doors of Golden Inn closed in 2022, John’s spirit will forever live on in every memory, every shared meal, and every story told over his famous salt-and-pepper squid and signature lobster noodles, each dish carrying a piece of his heart.
Golden Inn was his world, his pride, and his passion.
John leaves behind a proud legacy and is survived by his three sons, who will continue to carry forward the values, traditions, and dedication that made Golden Inn a true Calgary treasure.
Thank you, John, for 45 years of flavour, family, and unforgettable memories.
