This little cake was inspired by one of the most iconic birthday cakes in cinema history, the one Hagrid brought to Harry on his 11th birthday.

A little messy.
A little imperfect.

Most people think the final layer is what makes a cake look smooth…

But it actually starts here 🤍

This first layer of buttercream (crumb coat) is what:
– seals in the crumbs
– creates structure
– allows the final layer to go on clean, smooth, and flawless

A simple tool like acetate can make a big difference in achieving clean edges…

Without it, the finish will never look the same — no matter how careful you are later.

It’s a quiet step… but it makes all the difference ✨
