July 1st—Canada Day—is just around the corner. As you prepare for your backyard bbqs, picnics or wiener roasts we have all your bun and bread needs covered. But don't leave your shopping to the last minute. Our deli and retail store will be closed on Wednesday, July 1st and there will be no deliveries. Our order desk will be open on July 1st from 10am until 1pm. All services will resume regular hours on Thursday, July 2nd.

Calgary Italian Bakery exists because of our dear father, Luigi Bontorin and his vision for a local bakery, serving the city of Calgary and beyond. And in that same spirit, over the past 60+ years, we have pressed on because of the hard work, dedication and vision of countless other fathers who show up and make our bakery what it is today. Thank you to all of the incredible men who show up and do the hard work—fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles and chosen dads—you are so appreciated.

The snow is gone and the sun is shining and the long weekend is just about here! Our deli and retail store will be closed from Saturday, May 16 until Monday, May 18th, and will resume regular hours on Tuesday, May 19th. There will be no deliveries on Monday, May 18th and our office and order desk will be closed as well, with regularly scheduled deliveries will resuming on Tuesday, May 20th. Let's get to know Focaccia! This high-gluten bread, with the crunchy crust and the doughy middle is an Italian staple, pairing well with soup, stew or try it as a delectable appetizer. If you want to savour all the deliciousness of our Focaccia drop by the bakery and pick up a slab today and try it with this recipe:

- 1 slab of Calgary Italian Bakery fresh Focaccia Bread
- 1-2 cloves garlic, very finely minced
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
- Freshly ground black pepper & salt to taste
- For garnish: Fresh chopped parsley

Recipe:
1. Add minced garlic, red pepper flakes and oregano to a medium size shallow bowl or plate. Grate parmesan directly into the bowl, then pour the olive oil over top, drizzle the balsamic last.
2. Stir everything together with a spoon and season with salt and pepper to taste. Add a little fresh chopped parsley (or basil!) on top, if desired.
3. Serve with Focaccia bread cut into chunks for dipping. Enjoy!

The Easter long weekend is just about here! Our retail store and deli will be closed on Good Friday, April 3rd and remain closed until Monday, April 6th, resuming regular business hours from 10:30am to 2:00pm. There will be no deliveries and our order desk will be closed on Friday, April 3rd, with regular deliveries resuming for Saturday, April 4th and Monday April 6th.
